Antica Macelleria Cecchini, run by butcher Dario Cecchini, is a one-of-a-kind store. When you enter the shop, you immediately see shelves containing his large cookbook collection before viewing the large cuts of meat on display. Cecchini is all about tradition, using local products and animals, and preventing food waste. There is a long table set up for guests to partake of snacks and samples such as the Chianti butter, which is a type of lard spread on toast. If you’re lucky, one of the staff will open a bottle of Chianti wine for everyone. In addition to meat, products like olive oil and grappa are available too. If you want to make the famous Florentine-style beefsteak at your villa or apartment in Tuscany, then you need to buy it here because the quality is so great. Instead of making it yourself, you can also book a table at one of Dario’s restaurants, which is a special experience since there are only a few bookings a day. He also has a cooking class for people who would like to learn more. Overall, this is a great place to visit in Chianti to learn about the local Tuscan cuisine.

What to buy: The best items to buy here are the Chianti butter and the beefsteak.

What to pay: The most expensive cut of meat is 35 Euros per kilogram. The average price is around 20 Euros, and some smaller products cost less than 10. Dinner in one of the restaurants averages around 30 Euros per person.
