I mentioned in my introduction that Cannero has a beach. It is in a cove, on the southern side of the village, i.e. on the opposite side with respect to the boat landing. The natural beaches here consist mostly of pebbles, but soft sand is brought in for the summer, and put on the long narrow terrace that lies between the grass of the public...more
The promenade is beautiful, but it is not the only place where it's nice to go for a walk. If you turn into the narrow alleys in the oldest part of the village, you will find how picturesque they are. Among their charms is the fact that every now and then you will catch a glimpse of some garden, enclosed among the houses.more
The village is small, so the promenade is not as grand as that of Stresa, but probably this is why I like it even more. The view is extremely beautiful, and I find it very relaxing that the houses and hotels I pass by are in a more real-life scale than those of the "grand-dames" of other more famous towns.more
Lungo Lago 2, Cannero Riviera, 28821, Italy
Good for: Solo
I have seen several restaurants in Cannero, and this one seems the most lively in the evenings. Probably it's because of its bar, where people spend time also before and after their meals. Or maybe it's just because it looks very hospitable and welcoming, with its tables in the open air and the spacious interiors. If you decide to stop there you...more
The location of this restaurant, between a camping site and the beach of Cannero, is precisely where one would wish to find a pizzeria, i.e. a place where you can have a quick bite, or a three-course meal to be enjoyed at leisure. There is space enough for many tables outside, but also inside this restaurant is pleasant, because the wide windows...more
This charming restaurant is in one of the old houses on the lake front. If you happen to have your meal inside you will probably see some pictures on the walls, showing how this same house looked like a century ago or so. But I think it more likely that you will want to dine outdoor. In fact the Europa is located on the promenade, and missing the...more
Signor Carlo Zanoni, the current owner, is the grandson of the other Carlo Zanoni who started this business in 1911. In their piece of land in the centre of the village, by the stream of the Rio Cannero, this company grows plants and flowers to sell, but their activity includes also designing, creating and tending gardens.
What to buy: A great variery of potted plants, in many sizes and colours. The shop sells also garden accessories and tools.
In Cannero the climate is very mild, because the mountains shelter it from the cold winds, it is kissed by the sun for many hours a day, but it has also its share of rain, so this area is particularly suitable to grow plants and flowers of various kinds. Local and exotic plants grow together with a beautiful effect. For instance in several gardens...more
When Italy was a poor country and many people migrated abroad, also Cannero had its migrants. Most of them, in the XIX century, went to England to seek their fortune, but they did not cut their ties with Cannero. On the contrary, several of them became benefactors of their birthplace. This bridge, for instance, was built with money donated by the...more
