I found that this house at the entrance of Guarene was particularly nice.
Actually, Langhe and Roero are not far from Turin (around 50 km) and I feel the many houses of the villages have been bought by citizens of Turin that either live here yearlong and go to Turin to work or come here only for week-ends. This is not only true in Guarene, but I have noticed that for example in Neive.

The address given for the Palace is Via Alessandro Roero, Guarene. However, the palace is taller and wider than the whole village that it dominates completely and you will find it, even if you do not know the address ! Actually, giving an address to such a large structure looks like a joke !

A fortified castle has been standing in this place since the Middle-Ages. In the 18th century, the Marquis of the Roero put it down and built instead the imposing baroque style palace that we can see now. It is one of the best examples of the palaces built by the nobles in the 18th in the "juvarriano" style. It is also one of the best kept. Both the outside and the inside are in perfect condition. As far as I remember, groups can visit it every Sundays at 2PM. We did not try to visit it as we are not castle fans, but it seems that the visit is really worth it.

The "castello di Guarene" (palace of Guarene) is a huge building on top of a hill (elevation 360 meters) that overhangs the eponymous village. It stands in the middle of a wide park and it has a breathtaking panoramic position over Alba, the Tanaro valley and the whole lower Langa.

As I have always a crush for local chimneys, I had to take a photo of some of them in Guarene. The general design is always the same, but nevertheless, each has a different style.
The first photo shows two chimneys with a two sides cover like a small roof, each made of a few Roman tiles.
The second photo shows two different chimneys, the left one is topped by a kind of pyramid built with bricks while the right one has a round design topped by a bowl.

The first photo gives a bird's eye view on a part of the village. The parish church SS. Pietro e Bartolomeo (Saint Peter and Bartholomeo) stands in the middle. It was built in 1782 in a late baroque style on Piazzetta Parrocchiale (Parish Square). A table of the 16th is on display inside.
The second photo shows another part of the village with the church SS. Annunziata on Piazza Municipio (City Hall Square). It is a baroque church built in 1699 by the Confraternita dei Disciplinanti (brothers of the disciplined). The bell tower is older.
Palazzo Re Rebaudengo (Palace of king Rebaudengo, not identified on the photo) stands in the center of the city, on Piazza Municipio. Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo organize frequently shows of painting, sculpture, etc…
The last photo gives a view on a private house with a beautifully designed roof and a few chimneys in the local style.

Two hundred meters after the entrance into the park of the palace, a cast iron structure has been built that overhangs the valley and offers a birds eye view both on the valley and on the hill of the lower Langhe, on the other side of the valley. Unfortunately, on out visit, the mist spoiled somehow the view.

On this photo, a part of the village of Guarene is seen from a few kilometers in the south-west, from another hill of the Roero. The castle is on the other side of the hill and almost hidden in the mist.
