This is the smallest (and Westernmost) of the lovely Italian lakes. It a little less touristed and it's just beautiful. The food, the people, and the buildings--well, of course, it's Italy! the little village of Orta San Guilio is the perfect place to have lunch and watch the people, the boats, and the island.

Pella is a lovely town on the opposite side of the lake, just across of Orta San Giulio. There are boat connections with other places on the lake. There is upper town and a very steep and curvy descend to the lower town, on the lakeside. It has a lovely promenade which featured an interestng exhibition of photograhs from the local photo club. It was thematic, on different locations of the town.
There is a lovely view of Isola San Giulio and Orta San Giulio, as well as the Alps on the north of the lake in the direction of Omegna.
The main square has a childrens playground and a lovely bar-restaurant on the lakeside.
Try to go further down to the next village, Ronco, it's tiny and picturesque, very private and cozy!

Play with your camera a bit (especially if it's digital, it doesn't cost a bit ;-) and take photos of late afternoon sun reflections - on the water, windows, glasses... The lake is magical at that time!

The only way to reach this tower is hiking. The path is so near and not suitable for cars. From there you'll face the most beautiful view on the lake! it's worthwile to make an effort on the hot day as well. :-)

Climbing trees at the beach is very rewarding, not only for the comfort and wonderful view, but also as an emergency solution when you lack a wonderful swing to mount, like that guy I already talked about.

Little ducks are so funny, when you throw stones they rush to you thinking you're throwing food! This way you can lure them to come close to you. They're very cute and friendly and not afraid. But don't be cruel, have a piece of bread or something to feed them once they come to you.

The beach I adore is made of tiny pebbles, almost sandy, with lots of lush green behind if you prefer shadow to hide from the sun, but still want to be beside the water. It's almost deserted, which is a puzzle! It's much more beautiful than anything! But people prefer to be on the concrete platform near the bar, or in the camp if campers. Better for me! :-)

Immediately after Orta San Giulio there would be a lovely beach resort and soon after, camping. it's in the small cove behind Orta San Giulio peninsula and you can see the tower of Villa Crespi from there easily. It has a small beach bar with ambulance and wide stone plateau for those who prefer urban beaches rather than natural ones. I go for the nature!

There are lots of boats of all kinds on the lake, mostly owned by locals, from the smallest, to the sail boats and big yachts. Some would sail in to the restaurants directly, as most of them have a molo pier for boating guests!
