banana boat powerboat trip with capitan Jack Flow
arnold77 Says:
you can not miss the banana boat rides and powerboat of captain jack on Orta's Lake! I found an advertisement on the shores of Lake Orta in the summer 2010. we were 10 friends and we tried all afternoon the fantastic adventures of Captain Jack on the lake!we made a lot of...
Sip wine and look at the lake
Tman777 Says:
This is the smallest (and Westernmost) of the lovely Italian lakes. It a little less touristed and it's just beautiful. The food, the people, and the buildings--well, of course, it's Italy! the little village of Orta San Guilio is the perfect place to have lunch and watch...
PELLA
Aurorae Says:
Pella is a lovely town on the opposite side of the lake, just across of Orta San Giulio. There are boat connections with other places on the lake. There is upper town and a very steep and curvy descend to the lower town, on the lakeside. It has a lovely promenade which...
PONCETTA: PONCETTA
Aurorae Says:
This is my favourite restaurant at Orta lake! it's not the most beautiful, but the most special, with very warm, domestic atmosphere, wonderful cuisine, lovely view on the lake, with balcony in flowers and truly delicious dishes! Take a home made dish that looks like lasagne...
"L'Ustaria" Cà dal Rat: "L'Ustaria" Cà dal Rat - for snobs!
Aurorae Says:
This is a very beautiful restaurant on the way to Orta San Giulio, but it's super classy and fancy, and for snobs. It's very pricy and you need to have a reservation (otherwise it's impossible to eat there). The atmosphere is stiff, artificial... Pity, for the scenery is...
CAFÉ RESTAURANT: CAFÉ RESTAURANT
Aurorae Says:
At first glance nobody would pick this café restaurant, but it's very very nice actually! It's at the big parking of Orta San Giulio (only residents are allowed to go with cars inside the town, others must park before), it doesn't even have a name, it's written "SNACK BAR"...
SAN ANTONIO: SAN ANTONIO
Aurorae Says:
This is a WONDERFUL restaurant near the camping site after Orta San Giulio. It's on the lakeside with amazing view and very romantic atmosphere, with candelabre and sunset... Menu is delicious, one of the best dishes I've ever had in Italian cuisine. Try tagliatelle con...
Lake Monster
Helpfulness
Aurorae 1749 reviews
(This is more sort of a joke, but anyway... )
Loch Ness is not rhe only lake with a monster. Beware of the strange beast lurking from the water! You're never safe! And don't swim far away from the shore! There are many legends among locals about what's hiding in the lake...

BOAT SERVICES
Helpfulness
Aurorae 1749 reviews
Orta San Giulio is the main port and the place to take the boat to the island - Isola San Giulio. However, beware as there would be greedy boat rivers who'll offer to take you in their boats for a high amount of money! They'd be very kind and friendly, but don't fall for that. Stick to the public service.
Fun Alternatives: public transport

ROTONDA
Aurorae Says:
Another lovely viewpoint at Sacro Monte is called ROTONDA SORA LUNA ET STELLE (sister Moon and stars) as it says on the stone beside this plateau with bench. It overlooks the other side of the lake, the beginning of it, and not the central part where is the island, and it's...
VIEWPOINT
Aurorae Says:
One of the best viewpoints at Sacro Monte is near the church. There is a plateau with benches overlooking the lake and Isola San Giulio. It's better to be there in the morning, because in the afternoon the shadows are bad as the sun is on the opposite side and the island and...
CHURCH
Aurorae Says:
The church at Sacro Monte of Orta San Giulio is at the panoramic point, at the end of the monastery complex. There are regular services. Beside there is a souvenir shop and public toilettes, which I've never seen in a church! But since it's a bit far away from the town, the...
SACRED BUILDINGS
Aurorae Says:
At Sacro Monte resort complex you'll find lots of very old religious buildings scatterred around. All of them are painted with frescoes inside, and many contain sculptures and figures in different biblical scenes.
Lago di Orta
Lago di Orta (Lake of Orta) and surroundings is just one of my favourite spots for mountain biking. In spring when there is still snow on the northern side of the Alps, there is already nice and warmy sunshine around Lago di Orta. You can either do just some exercise with your road bike or climb your first mountains of the season with your mountain bike. In summertime, it may get a little to warm for mountain biking, but there are many trails in the woods and don't forget the lake itself. It's always there for a refreshing bath at the end of a great day on your bike. And then there's fall - one of the best time to go the region. Most of the summer tourists have gone and the place is now more quite. And the scenery is just to nice to be true. You have to see the living colours!
One of my favourite spots: Monte Mottarone (see also the pix)

BAMBOO
Aurorae Says:
Like on all the other northern Italian lakes, Lago d'Orta also has bamboo growing around! Very unusual for the 45° north latitude climate, and alpine surrpundings, but bamboo grows joyfully together with other exotic & Mediterranean plants, like palms, olives, citrus...
WOODEN STICKS
Aurorae Says:
These wooden sticks, parts of the pier have another application apart from being a place to tie the boats up to the shore. They are a landing spot for sea gulls, who adore to stand on the top of them! Pity I didn't catch any on act!
BEACH WALL
Aurorae Says:
There is not a lot of space for the beach, the water arrives to the walls very fast! But you can sit on the walls or stretch on the grass behind it just as well, if you don't want to stay at the place where the beach is broad or use the concrete one.
COLOURFUL STREETS
Aurorae Says:
The streets of Orta San Giulio are very narrow and tight, and very cheerfully coloured in bright colours like pink, red, orange, beige and yellow. Many houses would be decorated with flowers, which adds to the lively ambience.
PRIVATE LAKE ACCESS
Aurorae Says:
Most of the shore is private (lucky them!!!) All houses on the lakeside have their own access to the lake and it's forbidden to trespass. It was painful to watch them sitting in their beach beds comfortably, in their gardens, or on the shore, on their own private property!...
LAKE PANORAMA
Aurorae Says:
If you're arriving to the lake from the roads at the hills above you'll have a fantastic panoramic view. Here you can see the road you'll take and the beach beside where you'll arrive once you go down.
