There are several varieties of snakes thoughout Italy but only one of them is poisonous, the common viper (mostly Vipera Ursinii and a couple other varieties) simply called "vipera" in Italian language. I've seen many of these beautiful animals but never had a problem.Ask for leaflets and ask doctors/pharmacysts about the topic.Major hints to prevent and avoid bites are the following:- The viper is a shy reptile that prefers to hide amongst rocks or tall grass, especially if exposed to sunrays. Avoid to randomly put your hands around.- Vipers are deaf but sensitive to vibrations. Won't bite if not closely harassed, and it likely moves out of the way if it detects "sounds" of walking people or sticks hitting the ground.- Vipers are robust, max 3-foot long quick biters. Look ahead on your trail and avoid to step on one, as if you do, you'll get stung before you know it.Vipers are rarely...

Throughout Piedmont mountains there is an impressive number of hiking trails, climbing routes and ski slopes.DO NOT GO VENTURE in the mountains if you're an inexperienced mountaineer or skier unless accompanied by experts or professional guides.If such a chance is not available, limit your adventures to those places where you can still see people around you.
