Bobbino 49 reviews

It was built 1898-1903 by Onofrio Petruzzelli and Antonio Petruzzelli.

In the night of 27th october 1991, a big fire (whose cause has remained uncertain)destroyed the Petruzzelli theatre, after that on the stage was represented the tragedy of the pyre of Norma and Pollione.

Subsequently restored. Re-opening planned for 2005.

Learning Serbian at the Bari ferry terminal

What is there to do while you are waiting for the Bar-Bari ferry? Not much, but we improvised. Here we are studying our Serbian phrase book, so we could attempt to make some unintelligible sounds when we got to the other side of the Adriatic in Montenegro.

Standing guard over our 18-wheeler at Bari

Most of our time in Bari was spent waiting in line to get our car on the ferry. We arrived at 5:00 p.m., but didn't drive onto the ferry until 10:30 pm (later than scheduled), and the ferry didn't finally leave port until midnight.

The ferry was also used by truckers, which made driving our car in and out of the ferry quite interesting indeed. The ferry from Bari to Bar, Montenegro was packed to the gills. It was amazing to me how many cars and big rigs could be crammed onto that boat without sinking the boat in the middle of the Adriatic.

Once you are on the ferry, you aren't permitted to go back down to your car, so make sure you take up everything you need for the overnight trip.

Still the Otranto mosaic!

The crypt with its frescoes smells of damp, though this is something that you would think they would guard against. Then we walk round the outside of the castle (being cleared from a film festival) where there had just been some violence between the lorry men and people in a black Mercedes. Blood on the floor and much shouting and thumping of the side of the lorry. We go on to the small Byzantine church, its outside plain, but well decorated inside. From there it is a short walk, stopping at the Bar Molo for caffe frappe, done properly, all blended into a milky creamy substance.

Visit Otranto.

For some reason I remember the car park and the walk to the cathedral from four years ago - a seriously weird mind! Blazing sun and cool wind make a good combination, and the blue sea was a delightful turquoise backdrop. Through the land gate and the entry beyond it, pockmarked with bullet holes at the top. The cathedral is hidden away up the side street, next to the bell tower. The wind drops once inside the old town. We stand outside the cathedral with its well-carved roundel/ rose window, with figures below it.

Visit Otranto Church for the mosaic.
Inside the Tree of Life is covered by chairs, it is a paradoxical situation in that most people come to see the mosaic with the pictures of heroes and hell, but it is still a church, not a tourist attraction.

The 'Il Castello Normanno - Svevo - Aragonese' is a very interesting fortress of 12th century. It's under renovation. What i really enjoyed was that in the main room with medieval exhibits(books, scripts),medieval music was played...that was a very good idea.

Walk along the harbour... Visit the part called 'The Old City'... See some castle-like buildings and cathedrals... Sit by the ruins of the old city (which really seem to be recent, not old) and watch the sea. Visit the big theatres and wide streets where you can do shopping. You can find very big shops of fameous brands.
Nice place for shopping and having some quiet time. But the big streets are very crowded by nights. Full of teens with motorcycles; smoking, drinking and kissing etc.

ALBEROBELLO is situated upon two hills, once separated by a riverbed.
The western hill is covered by one-thousand-and-one TRULLIs spread in the tortuos streets of the town. A trullo is a construction of ancient origin made of calcareous rocks. Thanks to an ingenious inner tube that conditions the environment, trullo is a cool place during the summer and warm during the winter.
