Franco and Lucia are the most charming and welcoming of hosts you could hope to come across, the restaurant has been newly rennovated and is delightful, the food is outstanding and the price is more than reasonable. What more could you want?
It can be difficult to find good places to eat in Gallipoli at fair prices, particularly during the busy summer period. I have recommended Portolano to an infinite number of friends, both locals and those who have come to visit me in Salento from abroad, and all of them have been delighted by Portolano!
Favorite Dish: Just let Franco guide you. He knows what's best on any particular day. He'll bring out a series of antipasti, both seafood and vegetables and all local specialities. Next comes the pasta.... Mmmmmmm.... Lucia's 'Gnocchi on the rocks' is fantastic, but so is the fish and pasta soup, and the fresh pasta with calamaro... it's all great. If you can manage a second course (swordfish or some other kind of grilled fish typically) you are a better man than I!
Don't neglect to order a 'sgroppino' for after ... lemon sorbet drowned in vodka. It's just the pick me up you need before stepping out of Portolano and back down to earth!
