Favorite thing: On the south of the citta, it is the sea front, a long road, "lungomare" (long sea) which also has the regional (puglia) office buildings. The citta is a sprawling town of high rise buildings, so nowhere is "new", but the roads are based loosly on a grid system. All of Italy is on holiday in August, with the northern city inhabitants travelling south, so it is very busy.

Favorite thing: Frederick II was a brilliant man. The Castel del Monte that he had built was more than a hunting lodge where he trained falcons and wrote the definitive text on it that is still used. Much of its architectural and sculptural works have been despoiled over the centuries but the massive structure remains and one gets the idea. Why did he pick this spot? Why did he build it? These are puzzles that scholars amuse themselves with and which make the Da Vinci Code seem like child's play (Umberto Eco could do a novel on it). Situated in the middle of nowhere, the Castel is worth a 2hr. visit.(Separate tip).

Favorite thing: We had this beautiful sunset view from our little "farm" where we stayed our time there. This is almost Basilicata, a little village in the campside.

Favorite thing: Beautiful little town in the southeast of Italy. We spent there only a few hours to make some shopping for the whole group. I saw a lot of beautiful old buildings and churches.
