Favorite thing:
Desperate to find a car rental place, we were very lucky to see Salentotime in Lecce's historic centre. They offer all the usual city information, but as a private business have more services than you find in official offices.
They sorted us out with a rental car, ringing up the firm to arrange the best price and having the car delivered to the shop. Obviously they had links with that particular firm, but our own research proved that they were the cheapest in Lecce for what we wanted. All very quick and easy, and we were able to drive away within an hour of turning up.
There is also good internet access, around EUR 3 per hour, with a quick and reliable connection. There are around 8 PCs.
Salentotime also arranges accommodation in Lecce and the surrounding area, provides oodles of info on what's going on in the city and, from the looks of the website, can sort out more unusual hires like boats and places. Very friendly and accommodating. Recommended.
Find Salentotime at:
Via Regina Isabella, 22

Favorite thing:
Many of the ancient buildings of the old town, owned by rich families in the past, have private gardens inside.
Most of them are not open to the public.
If you are lucky (a couple of times in a year they may be visited) or are somehow able to have a look, you will be conquered by smells and colours: jasmine trees, orange trees, roses.
Favorite thing:
The old town is not so big.
I do not suggest to choose a specifiic itinerary.
Get a map (hotels and tourist informations would give it for free) then reach whichever of the three ancient doors (San Biagio, Rudiae and Napoli), enter it and go around. In half a day you will orient yourseslf and threw the map away.
This is the best way to discover hidden views, you will feel as "yours", such as these of this and the following pictures.
