Boccon Divino: Local dishes and pizza
This restaurant has a great location if you want to make the most of Lecce's vibrant passeggiata. It's right in the core of the historical city centre, surrounded by baroque churches, and on Viale Liberta, one of the main thoroughfares leading past Piazza del Duomo and Lecce's famous Baroque churches.
The menu is a mix of pizzas and pasta and other dishes that are mainly local. I tried sagne 'ncannulate, typical leccese pasta shaped like thick ribbons twisting back on themselves, in a sauce of tomato and ricotta forte. The pasta was homemade and very good, but the cheese... Hmm. Ricotta forte is a local cheese that is very sour and becomes more so the more you eat. I'm glad I tried it, and I'm sure it was cooked perfectlywell but it can only be described as an acquired taste. My boyfriend had pasta with shrimp that was ok but nothing outstanding.
So does the food match up to its surroundings? It wasn't the best meal we had in Puglia (some stiff competition, though) but it was fine and priced reasonably. Service is friendly and there were plenty of local people eating at the restaurant.
Prosit: Coolest winebar in town
There are a lot of places to eat/drink in the old town of Lecce, but most are pretty similar. When you feel the need for something different try a drink and/or light meal in PROSIT on the corner of Via Fed. d'Aragona and Via Andrea Vignes, just 5 minutes walk from the Piazza Sant' Oronzo. A very cool, but not at all intimidating, bar that does great cocktails and light meals. The young woman who runs/owns it is very friendly and helpful, as are all the other staff.
Favorite Dish: We ate there three times and nothing we had was from the menu. Having explained we were vegetarian and only looking for a light meal, a number of wonderful alternatives were offered to us. Those we chose were great and were presented very elegantly. A Bellini (or two) is always a great way to start any evening!

La Puccia: Typical bread
La Puccia is a chain of fast foods which is all around Lecce (i guess at leats four).
A "Puccia" is a freshly baked bread, which you can fill in with whatever you like, among a big variety of things (many of them are vegetables) you choose in time. One is enough for one person.
