Why fuzz with the menu ?: Il boccone di musicista - Matera

by MichaelFalk1969

I know another VT member has given "Il boccone" a bad review, but our experience with this Trattoria was not so bad (not great either). It was just a bit weird - as we took our place the slightly overweight son of the owner presented us with the menu and recommended a "typical Basilicatan cold plate" and "Pizza Lucana". He recommended them so forcefully that it seemed he expected us to give the order right away - which was funny in a way. We gave it a try, and it was not bad at all. The cold plate was basically whitebread soaked with Olive oil + tomatoes, paprika and pomodoro cheese; the Pizza Lucana was pretty good; the price was OK, too.

Santa Anna: Osteria Santa Anna - near Cisternino

by MichaelFalk1969

This restaurant close to Cisternino station was a very good choice: a good range of pasta and meat dishes, excellent pizza, great wine list at very sensible prices, professional staff, very popular with the locals, nice atmosphere. You find it (sign-posted) on the small country road that connects Martina Franca and Cisternino. The food was good, though we did find even better restaurants during our stay.

Da Pio: Ristorante da Pio - Martina Franca

by MichaelFalk1969

This ristorante was our best choice in our whole holiday. The restaurant is located at the Piazza Plebiscito in Martina Franca, you can sit in the open and it is a great place for people-watching. Owners and staff are extremely friendly, you feel instantly "at home". They serve great antipasti, delicious primi and secondi piatti with a variety of pasta, meat and seafood dishes. We went there just three times, we always got a good table, and on our last day we had a nice chat with the manager who even gave us a bottle of (good) wine as a "parting gift". I would walk there from my home just to taste these wonderful gnocchi again ... If you are there, I recommend - the "antipasti dello chef" (wow!!!)- the swordfish carpaccio- the gnocchi with green pesto and gamberi- the tagliata Martina Franca (veal) - spaghetti scoglio (with seafood)

Cafe Tripoli: Cafe Tripoli - Martina Franca

by MichaelFalk1969

This nice, relaxed cafe (only a few metres away from Piazza de Plebiscito in Martina Franca) has the best ice-cream one could possibly imagine. We went there several times and were always satisfied. Cassata & Zuppa Inglesa Ice Cream

Don Giovanni: Pizzeria Don Giovanni - Martina Franca

by MichaelFalk1969

This was the best pizzeria we encountered while travelling in Italy. The range of different Pizzas was incredible - the menu had three pages of delicate pizza variations at sensible price. The quality and freshness of the ingredients was superb. The location - roughly between the city gate and the Piazza de Plebiscito - is good for people watching, too. The desserts were a mixed experience, the Tartufo was perfect, the Tiramisu less so. Pizza Don Giovanni Rosso, Verde e Bianco (all with pesto)
