Maccheroni: A Happy Accident

by RoscoeGregg

We happened upon this place while casting about one evening looking for dinner. It turned out to be a great choice. They were very busy and had to squeeze us in. I get the impression that a reservation would be a good idea. The staff was very good and well trained. The restaurant was very clean with an exposed kitchen. It had a busy but friendly feel. The quality of the product use in the preparation of the dishes was excellent. The wine and bread were both very good. The menu was typically Roman with a bit of inventiveness. This restaurant is a bit more upscale than we are accustom to but I feel like they delivered. I had an excellent Pasta Fagoli followed by a perfect insalata mista. We just had the house wine and it was very good.Bob had a very nice steak and Barbara had some very nice stuffed pasta.

Tatorria Da Guido's: Great Service and Great Food

by RoscoeGregg

We had two very good meals here. It is well staffed by a family. It was very comfortable and clean. My personal favorite dish was the tomato bread soup. A nice break from pasta and very delicious. Simple like most great tuscan cooking. A very well balanced and prepared tomato base thickened with fresh bread crumbs. Simple but great. With some wine and one of the great salads served here and you will be very satisfied. They had good bread as well. Very crusty with nice crumb structure.

Most of the Italian restaurant: In the hot summer days, part two

by croisbeauty

This is another suggestion what to eat in Italy when too hot. You'll feel like sated and yet very relaxed in your stomach. The dish you see is called "riso con gamberoni" - rice with crab-fish. Yes, it is very light dish but in the same time fed up and cheap. This kind of the dish can be ordered in most of the Italian restaurants.

All over Italy: In the hot summer days, part three

by croisbeauty

To those of you, however, who like to eat, no metter if hot summer day, this is an alternative. The steak is big enough, succulent but light at the same time. This is "cotoletta di maiale alla grilla senza contorni" - roasted pork steak. You have to admit, it looks very nice, succulent and belive me it was very tasteful.

"Tre Marchetti" da Barca: You will lick your fingers

by croisbeauty

Trattoria "Tre Marchetti da Barca" is the best restaurant in Verona and one of the best in whole Italy. It is tiny, cosy, full of people and noisy restaurant. The restaurant offers very traditional and home-based type of food. Here you can taste Italy "on the table".I suggest you to book your place in advance!During the Summer Opera Season it is open from 12:00 to 04:00. This place is the icon of Verona and the Veneto cuisine, it is a mom and grandma cuisine!!!My suggestion:- bigoli - fantastic pasta made by hand,- pig shrimps with beans,- white wine from Custozza. It is very expensive restaurant, from 40 - 60 euros, but it worth all money you spend.

Typical Italian dish: In the hot summer days

by croisbeauty

In the hot summer days human body needs more beverage then the food. When is over 30 C degrees I am barely hungry in lunch time, instead of food I take fruits or ice-cream. Sometimes, when in Italy, I order scpecial dish which cannot be ordered elswhere. The dish, you see on the picture bellow, is called "prosciutto con melone" - smoked ham with melon. Well, I suppose most of those who haven't tasted it yet cannot imagine to put melon and smoked ham on the same dish. However, it is a very good combination of tasteful, light and refreshing dish. Try it when in Italy, am sure you wont regret.

Leoncino: Trattoria

by croisbeauty

Trattoria "Leoncino" is one of the best restaurants in area of Vicenza. It is situated in Altavilla Vicentina, a few kilometres is approaching to the city of Vicenza. Trattoria isn't a fancy looking restaurant, however, it is a place where you can enjoy in excellent food. The working hour is from 12:00 to 15:00, and from 20:00 to 23:00.It is closed on Sunday and Monday. The first dish I had was "Tavola freda", with various kind of seafood,- then I ordered "Baccala al Vicentino" (cod-fish with hard corn-mush), which is the famous speciality of Vicenza, known in the whole Italy,- after baccala you must order frizzante type of wine, my suggestion is Pinot,- at the end I had esspresso. The price I paid, euros 25,00

Local food

by Ilney

I do not remember the name of this restaurant , but I hope the picture can help.I was in the bus looking at the map and a nice italian girl sat besides me asked what I was looking for and as it was luche time I said I was looking for a place to eat. She told me to avoid the tourist areas and head to the Jewish Ghetto where I would find local italian restaurants that serve fresh food. SHE WAS RIGHT !It has been a while, but I still can feel the tast of the Buffalo's Mussarella I had in my salad on that day.
