We were surprised to see a lot of people at the end of their holiday, wheeling their suitcases to the beach because they had several hours before their evening flight home. I found out from the Tourist Information Office that there was a 'left luggage office' at the Railway Station (only a few minutes walk from the Lido beach), which cost only a couple of Euros (?) for the day. We spent the last day on the beach, walked back to the railway station, and took a taxi to the airport. It's a lot less hassle! Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Taxi rank just to the left of this picture! by Paisleypaul The taxi rank is just off to the left of the picture (Tourist Information Centre pictured) Via Vittorio Emanuele II opposite thelarge bank, Banca Nazionale di Lavoro. We once needed a taxi in a hurry and I had earlier noticed that not one taxi had appeared during a 45 minute spell ! I procured a taxi company phone number and got one - it was the same guy who had run us ion from the airport ot the hotel ! Now, there is more than one cab driver in Sardinia, but, do take care as their appearacnes can be a bit ....sporadic ! If you have a plane or a train to catch, be sure to phone ! As in many towns where tourists flock, the colourful little tourist train will be found! Alghero has it’s own brightly coloured yellow & red train! For a few Euros you can take a guided historical tour through the narrow streets of the old town & also ride along the road alongside the beach. All for fun & educational too! There are about 4 local buses routes running around alghero, which one you catch depends which area yr staying in,but they all run into the old town gateway. on arrival in alghero get a bus timetable from the tourist information centre or hotel.(times are not shown on the bus stop boards) you cannot pay on buses you have to buy tickets in advance from either the hotel or the many tabbacconists. only about 60 eurocents a trip. when you get on bus you put the ticket into a slot of machine which prints on time and date (its a bit tricky and some times needs a bit of jiggling) Theme: Bus

life in a hammock by littlebush To get to Alghero from Londom, wait for Ryanair to do their deals(I should be on commission you know!), we went for £49 but I know you cna go as low as £30! You need a car to really explore the north west of Sardinia, in the Alghero region. There are buses but you wont get to all the good parts. Car hire is cheap. It cost us 64 euros for 2 days for a small fiat panda which is al you need on thsi island. Driving is fantastic, not a sole on the roads, the scenery is fantastic, the sun shining, absolutely perfect! fuel is cheap too. We hired from www.autonoleggiosardinya.it If you do use buses, they are dead cheap, 88cents from porto conte to alghero! Theme: Car/Motor Home

I think bicycle is the most appropriate vehicle to get a trip in town or surroundings. Alghero get plain streets, so using a bicycle can be really a pleasure especially on the seaside. So, if you're not travelling with your own bike, why don't you rent one? Prices start from 3.00 euro/hour Leave a Comment

by bonio A bus meets most flights into Alghero airport and makes the 20 minute journey into town, cost (Jan 2007) is just 70 cents. The trip back departs around two hours before each flight, here is the current timetable, or look at the link for further info Leave a Comment
