Due to catalonian influence, paella is a typical dish of the town. You can find it anywhere, but the best places we found for it were ate the seaside walls. There were many nice terraces on the "bastioni" and they all had great (and not expensive) paella dishes.

Fantastic location in the Bastion Walls with an incredible view of the bay. The restaurant has some tables in the rampart, in the covered garden (relly elegant) and others in the panoramic terrace (on the first flor). The food was delicious: fresh seafood and fantastic local wine.
Favorite Dish: Fried fish of the day: the best seafood I’ve ever eaten because it was fresh, perfectly cooked, well seasoned and presented beautifully.

Great location among trees, very quiet. Three of us dined there. The service was quick, courteous and excellent. A meal (single course each) for three worked out at ?49 with the house wine. The food was excellent and the house wine was reasonable quality but very good value.
Favorite Dish: We all enjoyed our meals. One had pasta with fresh salmon in cream and we had the pizza delizia (vegetarian). The bread with the meal was fresh and we were served a free selection of small cakes after the meal.

Great little Chinese diner near the beach, seems to have just opened in 2009. Don't know of another Chinese restaurant in Alghero
About Eu30 for 2 of us, 2 courses including drinks. Did not feel out of place landing in swim shorts and sandals and a T shirt for lunch staright from the lido
Favorite Dish: My fabuorite is Hot & Sour soup (pictured). With so many antipasti I seldom start with zuppa in Italian restaurants so was just in the mood for this that day

This is a restaurant that looks excellent with nice outside area, but please beware.
After having ordered the mixed fish grill after the waitress had recomended it, i was violently ill less than 10 minutes after taking my first bite. This happened on the evening of 14/0709.
Now seafood lovers will be aware that sometimes things like this can happen but what followed left myself and my partner staggered.
A very frosty reception awaited after returning to my seat as the waitress informed that it was nothing to do with the restaurant and that i should go to hospital. Not once was i asked if I was feeling any better, not once was I offered any support in the form of a glass of water nor any digestive to settle my stomach, which I thought would just be basic things to do.
In fact 5 minutes later I was then being told it was the wine that was bad as the fish was fresh, this was the same wine that my partner had been drinking with no side effects, and was a very tasty Cannoneau Riserva from local vineyard Sella & Mosca.
All in all I could not get over the waitress's behaviour and attitude and strongly urge anyone to give this place a wide berth until the staff get some proper training.
Finally a message to the chef (from a fellow chef), when cooking baby squid/cuttlefish do, my friend, ensure you have cooked throughly the ink contained inside, we know squid is easily overcooked, but not ensuring the ink is heated through is a basic mistake.
Whilst I did like the ambience of the restaurant our evening was throughly ruined by the waitress's cavalier attitude to her customers that night.

Right almost at the corner of the fortified old town, this is entered from the area with the outside tables for the Miques di Miralle. An upper end restaurant, there is a Eu2 cover charge per person and a 10% service charge added to your bill. Half lobster at Eu36 was the single most pricey course of the holiday
There was a power cut for about 30 or 45 seconds the evening we were in , would not know if this common or not !
Favorite Dish: Half lobster was delicious, great with Alghero Sauvignon wine
We were 110 Euro inc. service for the wine, lobster and other main, 2 primi and 2 dolce along with 2 bottles of water

Very busy in Summer lunchtimes, great pizza, recall they were on the large side so be sure to be hungry!
One small complaint was that the soft drinks (Coca light) kept coming in cans rather than draft or bottles - you are of course provided a glass.
Favorite Dish: I had my usual Napoletana.

Great place at lunch time, couples and families, completely comfortable to roll in in T-shirt swimming shorts and sandals.
Cold drinks, beers wines or soft drinks, go down a treat in August.
Very original makeshift decor, with all kinds of oddments and curios scattered around, plus several musical instruments - there is live music, more a night time thing one expects - such as the picture of Mexican congas..........
Favorite Dish: Pizzas and bread were good but in all honesty "average" - although you have to qualify that by saying that the average standard is very high.
Recommended to sunbathers for lunch to escape the heat for a while.

Tarragona is the best place we have found in Alghero for pastries/ sweet. Described as caffetteria-pasticceria-bar, it is certainly not where you would go for a drink, coffee/ teas and the most glorious sweets/ pastires outyside of Sicily......
Favorite Dish: Well - just click on the link to the second photograph to see how nice the pastries are!

We were here twice in August 2007 - for the menu turistico, coming in about Eu14 a head plus extras, for lunch on the one day in the 17 that we did niot get beach weather all day and did this and that around Alghero's centro storico. Second time around we totalled Eu54 (Eu21 for 2 primi, Eu3 for 2 coperti, 1 antipasto at Eu 8 and drinks to Eu14 with the deserts Eu8 the pair -see later.
As ususal the coperto covers the bread on the table exquisite Sarde pane carasau "sheet music paper", see picture # 4........
Favorite Dish: The crema Catalana for dolce certainly needs to be ordered and the presentation - delivery will take you by surprise so saying nothing, but make sure it's dark whenyou order.....!
