Big on fish as typifies Alghero and the Old town in particlular. Produce their own cheese here too! A good rather than agreat restaurant, after 16 nights into our second visit we had tried quite a few!
Favorite Dish: Good wine list, I Papiri is on sale at the aiport post- security too, a chance to stock up if your miserable 15kg Ryanair baggage limit has been exceeded! But got addicted to creme brulee / crema catalana here and elsewhere......

The location in Piazza Sulis is beautiful, the restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and nicely decorated. The prices are very high most of the dinners are 25 Euro or more. My husband ordered the sea bass for 33 Euro. The plate had a cassette size piece of fish covered in a mediocre spinach sauce of some type. He said it was "ok" but that is all he got for 33 euro. We have been to restaurants in France in palaces or castles where the meals range from 17-30 Euro. The food was amazing and it was presented as art. We do not mind spending money on excellent food, this was not.
My meal is where my biggest complaint comes from. I ordered the King Prawn, which came with mashed potatoes and a few slices of artichoke. They did attempt to dress the plate, I was not mistaken when I thought they were staring at me. When I touched the first one with my fork, a brown watery substance squirt from the body. (praying quietly that it was some type of savory sauce injected into the prawn) It was not, when I pulled the "meat" from the shell red and brown organs oozed out. I was still not convinced that they would really serve me raw prawn, so I took a small bite confirming that it was infact raw. I became nauseated.
It was not made right and the entire dinner cost was 80 Euro. AWESOME! I paid them to make me ill!!!

There is a great deal more to The Steak House than steak! This friendly restaurant serves a wide variety of traditional Sardinian meals, including large succulent prawns in garlic and an extensive range of fish dishes.
We found this place almost by accident and went there twice, had we seen it sooner we would have eaten there again and again.
The freshly baked bread was the best I had ever tasted, and when I told the staff.....we were taken through to the kitchen and shown how it was baked! (This was later in the evening when most diners had gone).
Favorite Dish: On the second occasion we were there, I tried (in bad Italian) to explain it was the Birthday of our friend in the party and maybe they had a candle to put on a small cake....I sat back wondering if they understood me. Shortly after the main course, the chef came to the table with a large smile, almost as large as the 'Baked Alaska' in his arms. He had made this enormous dessert in a few minutes, and topped it off with half an egg shell containing some damn good alcohol happily burning away. Thats what I call a birthday cake!
This was followed by several glasses of Merto (?).
Our experience of the Sardinian people was a extremely good, but Steak House in Alghero takes some beating.

We got a tip about this restaurant as being a place where the locals went to. We ended up eating there three straight nights and the food, service and staff was superb. Everything from pasta, pizza to meat was excellent.
Favorite Dish: My personal favourite dish at Al Vecchio Molino was their Pasta Bolognese. Very simple but very very good.

Looks everything like a quality restaurant should and doesn't fail to deliver. We chose it for our last night treat and very glad we did.
The wait was only 15 minutes and the food was the best we have had anywhere in the meditteranean.
Topped with fabulous friendly service and good value quality house wine we will certainly be back.

Forget the classic 'pizzeria': Pocoloco's special is the 'pizza al metro', wich means 1/2 a meter, a meter or multiples of thin and crispy pizza, served sliced on long wood tables. You can choose 4 different flavours for meter, that's perfect if you want to share with friends or simply savour different tastes in the same pizza! Other italian specialities are available on the menu guide, as different kinds of pasta, salads an combinated plates. This local offers good quality live music, usually jazz but not only (see prospectus month by month on the website), bowling in a separated area, and has an internet point open from 7.00 pm
Favorite Dish: Pizza quattro formaggi e pomodoro con rucola! Ottima!!!

I must admit, the main reason for chosing this restaurant was that it's one of the few that were not closed off-season, but it was a truly pleasant surprise: nice and cozy interiour, perfect service, and the food was most delicious! Ate some perfectly cooked tuna and pesce spada - well, the other things I don't remember since the wine was really really good as well :-) - topped off by a fantastic dessert.
Favorite Dish: Can't remember all the fantastic dishes there... but you definitely shouldn't miss the swordfish, the tuna, the desserts...

Comfortable restaurant on Piazza Civica, really enjoyed my pasta dish and good vegetarian options for Mrs Bonio too. Good and reasonably priced wine to go with it. Enjoyable.
Looks empty in my photo? well it's 19:00. the only other customers are from the UK too, it's difficult to adapt to eating with the locals on a short visit!!

I have scored this ristorante 4/5 which is maybe slightly generous. Described by DK Eyewitness as serving 'some of the best food in Sardinia' an early afternoon inquiry found no tables for that evening - only the following evening, so the place is always full.
Food was very good but very simple, we both had lamb chops, lamb being a popular Sardinian dish rather than the Algherese slant on seafood. Local white wine up to the prevailing high standard, deserts a little ordinary.
Worth a visit - but after the DK review and scramble for a table maybe our expectaions were a little high
Favorite Dish: Lamb chops.......and mirto to finish!
