A larger restaurant which ended up being the only place we ate outside of the old town. Spacious with seating inside and out
Favorite Dish: We split a massive mixed antipasti (Eu12,50) containing prawn tuna mussels octopus cheese prosciutto aubergine courgete and salami ! Straight to secondi, fillet in pepe verde and grilled swordfish, with spinach in butter for contorni. A litre apiece of house white and mineral water and a large bottle of ichnusa Sardinian beer. Perfect ! Eu54 including cover charge

Pizzeria Rosticceria Gastronomia da Gianna is in the Centro Storico; near the large tourist information site which is a few dozen metres further along Via Simon. It is essentially a takeaway although there are seats to sit outside
Favorite Dish: The roast chicken and potataoes roasted in oil and rosemary were our first from a rosticceria and were absolutely delicious beyond all expectation.
There are several other places for pollo arrosto you may wish to seek out because - quite oddly - chicken does not seem to feature in any of the menus in any of the restaurants in Alghero. Of course, they are very big on all sorts of fish and amy number of various seafood dishes, and veal, steak and beef were everywhere, but when the mood strikes you for chicken.....?..... we recommend da Gianna !

Another little gem recommended by our guesthouse owner was “Foccacia”. This is a typical Sardinian bar/café that serves the most delicious sandwiches (amongst several other little snacks available).
Favorite Dish: The huge flat loaves of bread are sliced across the whole width, filled to order from a vast choice on a menu, cut into equally huge wedges & served wrapped in a serviette! At around €2 or under, they are an incredible bargain guaranteed to satisfy any hunger pangs for a few hours!

Having walked about 7 km without a break (enjoyably but briskly!) from Alghero to Fertilia we were in need of a satisfying lunch & hard earned carafe of wine!
We plumped for the first restaurant that we came to that looked like it would fit the bill – & came away an hour later more than satisfied with our random choice!
A friendly & efficient restaurant that was surprisingly busy for a Saturday lunchtime in this quiet small town.
Favorite Dish: Between 2 of us we enjoyed a plate of clams & mussells, a great pizza & of course the obligatory carafe of chilled local white wine. All were excellent!

This was simply the best restaurant meal we have enjoyed so much in years!!
“Mabrouk” was recommended to us by the owner of our guesthouse. It can be found in the heart of the old town in a very old stone building with typical arched interior ceilings. If it had not been recommended to us we would most probably have passed it by! There is not even a menu outside to peer at - & even once inside, there is STILL no menu!! Looking in from the outside through the small uninspiring entrance there is no clue as to the type of restaurant that it is within, or more unusually, that it only serves seafood!
Favorite Dish: All the food & drink you consume is included in the set price of €33 per person. Water, wine & so many amazing fish courses that I lost count!!
Followed by fresh fruit salad (even that was delicious!) small cakes/biscuits, coffee & a fabulous shot of Limoncello! Be prepared to feel uncomfortably full when you leave, but totally satisfied with the food, ambience & service!

We ate there twice. both times the food was reasonable and served fairly quickly. The white house wine wasn't too good but drinkable. The house red was much better.
Only complaint was that the waiters were rather surly and not very helpful.
Favorite Dish: We tried a variely of fish and vegetable based dishes. All were very good.

There were threee of us. We all got our first courses at different times. My two companions eventually got their second courses and had finished them when I reminded the head waiter that I had not received my pizza. 45 minutes later I reminded him again but told him to give me the meal as a take-away as I didn't want to sit and eat when my companions had finished their meal. They eventally delivered my boxed pizza and asked if we wanted an aperitif on the house. We declined, paid (less the service charge) and left. All of the people on the adjoining tables also had problems with their orders or bills that night.
Favorite Dish: The food was good but pricey.

This restaurant was mentioned in a couple guide books so we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed! The word 'tuguri' means hovel but this is the nicest hovel I've seen!
They have a regular menu but also do a 5 course fish based menu and a 5 course lobster based menu. The first was 50,000 lire per person and the second was only 70,000 lire. It is located in one of the many gothic 'palaces' that crowd the old town in Alghero.
Besides the lovely surroundings of the old building, it was nice to see that the other diners were all Italian. The service was excellent and the chef himself takes the order. He recommended a wine which happened to be the cheapest on the menu and was quite tastey. The total price was around 130,000 lira for 2 five course meals and wine.
Favorite Dish: We had the 5 course fish based menu and it went as follows:
Starter: 1/2 melon with a delicious seafood salad in it. The salad had a nice light coating of olive oil, not one of those heavy sauces that spoil the flavour. There were also marinated herrings and a piece of cucumber which had been hollowed out and some seafood mousse squeezed in. All very tastey.
Next was tagliatelle with a light seafood sauce. Along with this was served a sort of stew. I don't know what it was but I think it may have been a local dish called 'favata di fave', a stew made with pork rinds and beans.
Fourth course was deliciously roasted 'spigola' or sea bass. It was perfectly cooked and along with it was grilled squid.
The dessert has totally slipped my mind...

Palau Real is in a 15th century palace and had an eclectic mix of decor. We were led to a table in the corner near a cosy fire. Not long after we sat down, a chef went over to the fire and I realised that there was a grill coming out from around the fireplace. The chef scooped coals from the fire and placed them under the grill. Next he began to grill vegetables which became the garnishes on the main course plates. He also grilled all manor of fish and meat.
The atmosphere was nice and the service was very good. The grill was very unique, too.
Favorite Dish: We had:
Starters - octopus in a tomato sauce, thin slices of dried beef (similar to parma ham) with shavings of parmesan and rocket.
Pasta - ravioli with ricotta and spinach in butter and bottarga, seafood linguini
Mains - Swordfish grilled on the fire and served with the grilled veggies
Dessert - panna cotta with cherry sauce and seadas - a typical Sardinian dessert consisting of a cheese filled pastry which is fried until light and crispy and served with a honey lemon sauce. It is very tasty.
