by mazzap If you want to while away some time & watch the world go by, then this bar is a perfect choice. In the heart of the old town with friendly efficient staff, comfy seats, cold beer & lovely inexpensive Italian coffee – I particularly loved the litlle cow cream jug & just had to take a pic of it!! Alghero is blessed with the long white sand beach called Maria Pia beach. It stretches for a few kilometres along the road to Fertilia. It is family friendly as the water is shallow for quite a way before it gently shelves. Several hotels, bars, cafes & shops can be found just across the road along the whole stretch of the beach. On the beach are non-motorised boats & pedalos etc. for hire. There are many places along the beach where you can hire sunbeds – they even have their own unique built in sunshade, & of course there are the more traditional parasols available. The cost for 2 beds & 1 parasol varied between €10 & €12 for a day (insist on a discount if you arrive after 2pm though!) The water is crystal clear & a beautiful turquoise colour. When I visited in early June I found it to be quite cold, but a friend who went just 2 weeks later thought I was imagining it as it was ‘apparently’ warm!! Leave a Comment

The Aquarium in Alghero is the only one in Sardinia and is open until very late in August, about midnight, although they do close for the siesta. Admission is about Eu7 adults and concessions for children. Worth a look although not a huge collection, puts in about 30 minutes I would suggest, rather than the 'hour or two' optimistically predicted by lonely planet. Zoos over the world range from the atrociously criminal to the quite good. To be honest, I felt some of the tenants were in spaces too small or too overcrowded, but I decided it was no time to charge, gung ho, to the moral high ground... when I remembered that I was eating some of the species, such as catfish and octopus, and I realized that to be caught and then end up here rather than on a platter seemed like a result! Overall - worth half an hour, but don't expect too much Leave a Comment Address: 1 Via XX SettembrePhone: (0039) 079Directions: Just at the end of the Centro Storico, near corner with Via Sassari

by Peret This is a cave, just in the see level, as dig in the stone of a cliff. You can go by ship, or by walking a long stair with maybe 600 steps(l'escala del cabirol: bambi stair, in catalan). Very spectacular. Not always is affordable because the boat don't go when there's bad see, and if it is very bad, you can't go also by stair. The inside is very spectacular. The stalagmites and stalactites are very big. Leave a Comment Directions: A capo Caccia

This building dates from XV century. It's a rare piece of civil gothic architecture and still keeps single and double lancet windows, and a portal in local sandstone. First owners were De Ferrera merchants, a rich catalan family; but some years later palace was sold to Albis family, then to Arcayne. Making a stopover in Alghero with his 40 ships, after Algeri battle in 1541, Emperor Carlos V lived in this building during winter months; it seems that Emperor, coming forward one of the windows, referred to people in the crowded place (most of them had helped him during the battle) saying 'Estode todos caballeros' (be all gentlemen). 'Macchia Mediterranea' is the name given to the ensemble of mediterranean vegetation and its peculiar essences. Punta Giglio is a concentrated area of natural beauty: a walkable and cycling cliff and several routes of different difficulty to choose. Everything smells of wild olives, lentisk, helychrisum, myrtus, junipers, cistus, et cetera. Some shady areas are perfect for a picnic and relax during the warmest hours; from the top of the hill the panorama on Capo Caccia gulf is absolutely enchanting. You could also run into some of the old military fortress, dated II World War: bunkers, ammunition deposits and barracks still perfectly remain. Leave a Comment Directions: From Alghero, follow Fertilia and Porto Conte directions. Reach the Torre Nuova: on the left a wide place to park cars and starting climbing.

Alghero streets by littlebush In and around Alghero theres loads to do : - Beaches, there are plenty of fantastic beaches in this area, some very deserted. The best include Porto Conte, La Pelosa, Porto Ferro and Bosa. You'll need a car to access all these beaches easily. - Good drives, obviously you'll need a car to enjoy a good drive but there are plenty. The drive from Alghero to Bosa is stunning, the road hugs the cliffs with beutiful beaches around each bend. The drive from Alghero up to Stintino is very nice through a plain wilderness and then to a rugged coastline. - Alghero, walking around Alghero for an afternoon or day is very pleasant. Its got some very old buildings and narrow winding streets. -Sunset at Capo Caccio, this is a must! Capo Caccio is a stunning cape about half hour from Alghero. They have a famous grotto here,Grotto Nettuna. The sunset from the cliffs is beautiful. Lago Baratz - a big lake not far from Stintino in heavy woodland, nice scenery around

by gildapaolina Sulis tower was built over a previous spanish tower, called Espero' Reial. This circular tower dates back to XIV century and its interior is divided in two huge superimposed rooms, covered by vaults. One helicoidal staircase allows to reach the second floor. Since XIX century the name of the tower has been associated to kalaritan jurist Vincenzo Sulis, here confined through conspiracy and treason suspects. Leave a Comment Address: Piazza Sulis
