we also hired a car from www.autonoleggiosardinya.it (Thanks for the tip littlebush) We booked it over the internet, and picked It up and paid for it at the airport, it was only £56 pounds for two days and was great.
The roads in this part of Sardinia are quiet, and the drive from Alghero to Bosa is breathtaking.

To get to Alghero from Londom, wait for Ryanair to do their deals(I should be on commission you know!), we went for £49 but I know you cna go as low as £30!
You need a car to really explore the north west of Sardinia, in the Alghero region. There are buses but you wont get to all the good parts. Car hire is cheap. It cost us 64 euros for 2 days for a small fiat panda which is al you need on thsi island. Driving is fantastic, not a sole on the roads, the scenery is fantastic, the sun shining, absolutely perfect!
fuel is cheap too. We hired from www.autonoleggiosardinya.it
If you do use buses, they are dead cheap, 88cents from porto conte to alghero!

We arrived to the island by plane directly from Madrid with Ryanair. The airport is not far from the city, like 15-20 minutes. There are public buses that leave every hour or so.
