The first aerial view that you get of Cagliari is from the plane: since the airport Cagliari-Elmas is only 10 minutes drive out of the city, you will be able to enjoy this spectacular view just before landing! But there are other possibilities as well: the Castello district is on a plateau and gives you a fantastic view of the surrounding quarters like La Marina, the salines, the harbor, the beaches etc. Walk up to Castello or use one of the lifts (see my transportation tip for that). While in the Castello quarter, you will have a chance to climb one of the towers: the Elephant tower or the Pancratius tower - but watch out: the stairs are really steep! Even though we love towers and tend to climb at least one or two in every city, we did not feel the urge to do so in Cagliari, because the other options are just as nice! On the other side of town you have a spectacular view from the Bonaria gardens or the cemetary over to the Castello district - a view that I enjoyed even more! Leave a Comment

We went to Cagliari in February - off season for sure!! But we were really lucky with the weather: on the day of arrival it was still cloudy, but no rain, the next day it was sunny, but boy, did the Mistral blow!!! The third and fifth day were absolutely heavenly: blue skies and almost summerly temperatures and day four gave us the chance to visit some museums.... In general it was about 5 - 10°C warmer in Sardegna than in Germany at this time a year and we were very pleased with the weather! Have a look at the weatherforecast for Cagliari to find out about the current weather conditions! And here is a German version with °C. Leave a Comment

There are 4 suggested walks through Cagliari and each single one will not take more than two hours! You will be able to find signs both showing you where you are right now plus giving you some information (in Italian and English) about the sight. There are walks through all four quarters of the old city of Cagliari: - Castello - Villanova - Stampace - Marina And here is a German description of the walks: Routen und Rundgänge durch Cagliari Leave a Comment

We learned that the Via Roma, the road along the waterfront, was built when the ancient city walls were pulled down in the mid-19th century. It was designed to be an appropriate 'stage' for the wealthy citizens to see and be seen during their carriage rides or 'passegiatte.' Leave a Comment

Sards are very warm and friendly people, however they are extremely blunt and come across rude a lot of the time. This takes a little getting used to. People are very good looking but ladies.....the men are a bit on the short side. Leave a Comment

Known some general information about it.........................:r /> Cagliari ancient (Latin) CARALIS, or CARALES, city, capital of Cagliari provincia and of the island regione of Sardinia, Italy. It lies at the northern extremity of the Gulf of Cagliari, on the south coast of the island. Although it was probably occupied in prehistoric times, its foundation is attributed to the Phoenicians. It was known to the Greeks as Cardlis and to the Romans as Caralis. The principal Carthaginian stronghold in Sardinia, it was occupied by the Romans in the Second Punic War (218-201 BC) and probably obtained full Roman civic rights from Julius Caesar in the 1st century BC. In imperial Roman times (i.e., after 27 BC) Caralis became the most important town on the island, mainly because of its fine sheltered harbour, where a detachment of the fleet of Misenum was stationed. It was probably the seat of the Roman governor in the 4th and 5th centuries AD and was also the chief point of the Sardinian road system. It was independent in the European Middle Ages but later fell to the Pisans and the Aragonese before passing, with the rest of Sardinia, to the house of Savoy in 1718 Leave a Comment

Normally i go to Cagliari to work or to find my friends, i like it in the day but much more in the night... Click on the photo to enlarge & understand which kind of travel you can do to visit Sardinia
Close to the beach ' the poetto ', you can eat fruits of sea, eggs of curl of sea and other fresh sea-things. You will find close to the beach more 'shacks' (they are not so bad, but they are also not beautiful) where you will have to eat in feet but this taste, will stay in your memory for many years...
