Cagliari ancient (Latin) CARALIS, or CARALES, city, capital of Cagliari provincia and of the island regione of Sardinia, Italy. It lies at the northern extremity of the Gulf of Cagliari, on the south coast of the island. Although it was probably occupied in prehistoric times, its foundation is attributed to the Phoenicians. It was known to the Greeks as Cardlis and to the Romans as Caralis. The principal Carthaginian stronghold in Sardinia, it was occupied by the Romans in the Second Punic War (218-201 BC) and probably obtained full Roman civic rights from Julius Caesar in the 1st century BC. In imperial Roman times (i.e., after 27 BC) Caralis became the most important town on the island, mainly because of its fine sheltered harbour, where a detachment of the fleet of Misenum was stationed. It was probably the seat of the Roman governor in the 4th and 5th centuries AD and was also the chief point of the Sardinian road system. It was independent in the European Middle Ages but later fell to the Pisans and the Aragonese before passing, with the rest of Sardinia, to the house of Savoy in 1718

Favorite thing: Normally i go to Cagliari to work or to find my friends, i like it in the day but much more in the night...

Fondest memory: Close to the beach ' the poetto ', you can eat fruits of sea, eggs of curl of sea and other fresh sea-things. You will find close to the beach more 'shacks' (they are not so bad, but they are also not beautiful) where you will have to eat in feet but this taste, will stay in your memory for many years...

Favorite thing: Experience the Beaches. Get around town and experience the local life
Fondest memory: Cagliari is really not a tourist spot but is very important business Capital for the Island of Sardinia. It's ports are visited by the Italian Navy and other commercial lines.

Favorite thing: See the view of the city from atop the Hill. There are a few hill that dot the city and any one offers an exciting view of the land.
Fondest memory: The trip around the Sunday market. There are three locations, but the most interesting one was the one that had fresh fish and other sea food from the sea.

Favorite thing: After you have been to the waters edge, head up towards the old castle overlooking the city of Cagliari.
