by Sun-spot To get to the caves of the Grotta di Nettuno you can take the stairs. Easy... but have you ever climbed stairs when there is about 37C outside? Ah, did I mention that the stairs are actually - 656 STEPS! - Wimps apparently can take a boat from Alghero ;) and it takes about 3 hours. Don't forget to take some water with you. Leave a Comment Address: North west of AlgheroDirections: Capo Caccia is signposted from Alghero

Barumini is about 1 1/2 hour bus ride north of Cagliari and is famous (?) for its Nuraghe Su Nuraxi. This outstanding archaeological site has recently been named UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can only visit with a guided tour. The wonderful part (maybe not too environmentally acceptable) was that we were guided through the whole premises and were allowed to even climb the towers and everything! Read more on my soon to be created Barumini page! Leave a Comment

by Sun-spot One day we went to this fabulous beach - the sand was more like little stones and covered with water they looked just like pearls. And you know what's best? You don't have sand sticking all over you. Leave a Comment Directions: You can find this place south of Putzu Idu, that is north/west of Oristano.

by Sun-spot On the way down the stairs to Grotta di Nettuno you will see beautiful scenery. You will have plenty of time to capture it's beauty on the way back. Down it takes about 10-15 minutes, up about 30-45. Enjoy and don't forget to drink loads of water ;) Leave a Comment

by Sun-spot When you arrive, finally, at the cave you will be asked to pay 10 Euros for the entry and even when the tour is very very short - come on, you deserve it. The tour through the grotta takes about 15 minutes and it is only ca. 500 m long. You will walk though few 'rooms' that are open to the public, however, that is only a tiny piece of the whole cave. We based ourselves in Cagliari, which turned out to be the right decision considering the season: in February there is not much tourism in Sardegna, so being stuck in a holiday resort in the off season is not much fun! Cagliari, on the contrary, has enough culture throughout the year to keep a tourist busy: great architecture, stunning views, nice museums and trains and buses to discover the surroundings! For more information, do have a look at my Cagliari page Leave a Comment Directions: in the very south of Sardegna

by MichaelFalk1969 Nora -near Cagliari - has some fine roman ruins including a bath, a theater, temples, living quarters and mosaics in a spectacular setting against the sea. It is not well sign-posted, but the ruins as well as the panoramic views on the mediterranean are well worth the search. Address: west of CagliariDirections: west of Cagliari

by sourbugger The area around Arzachena (not far from the Costa Smerelda and Olbia) has many ancient sites to visit. Most cost just a few euro to visit, and you can buy a kind of 'multiple ticket book'. We visited the 'Coddu Vecchiu' or Giant's Tomb which originally had an earth mound covering it. It is quite a dramatic site, set on a small hillside with vineyards beyond. The entrance has a carved stone slab, a horizontal lintel, and an arch above; a small opening at the base was blocked by a stone. They ask you not to enter, but you just about poke your head in. Built from 2300 BC onwards, they were mass burial rooms. Although the photograph may seem to look like the size of Stonehenge, the entrance stone is only about 12 feet high - still I would not want to shift it without the help of a group of mates and the promise of vast quantites of beer as a reward afterwards. Leave a Comment Address: Arzachena area
