Beach: Porto Pino

by PALLINA

Porto Pino is a huge and very long beach where you can relax for an entire day (or week). Unfortunately, you may be asked to pay 3 or 5 euros for a day-long parking (in September we did not pay anything). Maybe very windy but I raccomend you to go in every climate condition, because its dunes of white sand are really worth to see. There is a small bar, but, as in every other beach in Sardinia, I raccomend you to bring you own things to eat. Ahhhh....I forgot to mention the sea: clear, blue, unforgottable....

Get your Shroom on!!

by JennysTravels

If you like mushrooms then there's nothing like fresh ones. If you are here in the later part of the year Sept-Nov and happen to know a local or two then I suggest going to pick your own mushrooms in the mountains and forests. Some good exercise and brilliant views. We canned this loot! Amazing taste!

Go to the Beach!!

by JennysTravels

If your lucky enough to be here in the summer months and are keen on the sea, then I suggest hitting the beach! They are beautifully amazing...waters so blue, skies so perfect. The locals make a family outting most sundays to the beach with their coolers full of delights and shade so right! This past summer we were lucky enough to spend 5-6 days at the beach every week. We would hike, swim, excersice, read books....just a great day!

Giara di Gesturi

A plateau west of the village of Barumini with fine and easy hiking trails. On the plateau you see large herds of wild horses - easy to find since they usually gather at the waterholes in summer. Hiking trails are well-marked. The main path leads from the main entrance toward the two waterholes - you can either turn left or right at the end of the trail and encounter the horses and some wild cattle. There are also some pittoresque reed huts.

Nuraghi

by nyxxx

Scattered all over Sardinia you'll find historic sites with Nuraghi, many of them rather small but in some places you can see the remains of entire villages. The biggest and most known are probably Nuraghe Su Nuraxi (near Barumini which is north of Cagliari) and Santu Antine (near Torralba, not far from Oristano). For more information see e.g. http://cronologia.leonardo.it/storia/tabello/tabe1597.htm or http://www.mondosardegna.net/nuraghi/nuraghi.htm

Rent a boat...

... and drive along the coast of e.g. Cala Gonone which is truly beautiful. You can stop just wherever you want and jumo into the water, terrific! A bit less terrific was loosing an anchor one time, which got completely stuck under a rock :D

Sights to see, place to go

by ZeusZeus

Hi What's best is always a matter of personal taste and of course depends on how much time you've got and how lucky you are with the weather. Personally I love the ss125 road from Dorgali to Lotzorai. The scenery is amazing!. Look for the Su Gorropu Gorge. it is on your righthand side, to the south of Dorgali. It's the deepest gorge in Europe. You should stop at Baunei and follow the signs to "il Golgo". The view from the top is brathtaking if the weather & light is right. There are excellent views of wildlife to be seen at "is Piscinas" (Waterholes) and around the old church of San Pietro. If you have time, you can walk to Cala Goloritze (allow 4-5 hrs there & back)for some spectacular views of this fabulous beach and coastline. A trip to the Lanaittu Valley and the amazing water temple of "Sos Carros" could be of interest. (check if it is open and get a good map or hire a guide).The...

Nora: Roman ruins

by MichaelFalk1969

Nora -near Cagliari - has some fine roman ruins including a bath, a theater, temples, living quarters and mosaics in a spectacular setting against the sea. It is not well sign-posted, but the ruins as well as the panoramic views on the mediterranean are well worth the search.

Visit Capo Testa

by anacapa

East of Santa Teresa in the north of Sardinia is this rocky cape. It was lovely and remote. It's a great picnic spot and worth a stop. I think there is only one main road in and out. Signage from Santa Teresa gets you on the right road.If it had been warmer I would have gone for a swim. The water was crystal clear. The air too, you could see Corsica from here.
