Cala Gonone

by mario_spring_83

Cala Gonone is a little village situated on the east coast of the island in the heart of the wonderful "golfo di Orosei".The village itself is a nice place with a friendly atmosphere, nice little restaurants and cafes close to the sea, few shops and markets. It's very quiet and, of course, it's not the capital of fun, but the main reason to come here is the wonderful nature and the beautiful coast that from here run south with 30 km of high rocks and charming beaches.

Right, you have seen the way to the Piscinas Dunes. Now, if you are brave and are happy to drive this bit in the dark stay and watch the sunset! It's just breathtaking. By then you will be one of the very very few people left on the beach and you will feel very special to watch this happening. Just enjoy....

When you finally arrive at the Piscinas Dunes you will be rewarded with a wide and long beach. Great place for a day out. Be prepared to have your own food with you, there is one beach bar and that's it. No hotels - no restaurants - no chippy ;)Just a lot of nature ... While snorkeling I saw even a school of fish, this is how I like my beach :)

When you get to the 'under construction' bit of the road be prepared to drive very very slowly. It is a sandy road full of bumps and holes. Pay attention to things around you. The most bizzare thing is an old mine town that you pass. It is spooky I tell ya, looks like a ghost town.

First of all, if you travel to the piscinas dunes make sure that you leave early. The road to the dunes in very very curvy and the last bit (ca. 5km) is still, let me say 'under construction'. Also, you will enjoy fabulous view's along the road so it might be good to have some time for a break and a picture.

Cagliari - Roman Amphitheatre

by Sun-spot

In the northwest of the city centre you can find the ruins of the 2nd century AD Roman Amphitheatre. As you see the place looks a bit like a building side as there is not much left from the original theatre. We did not go inside as you could see enought from just walking around.

To get to the caves of the Grotta di Nettuno you can take the stairs. Easy... but have you ever climbed stairs when there is about 37C outside? Ah, did I mention that the stairs are actually - 656 STEPS! - Wimps apparently can take a boat from Alghero ;) and it takes about 3 hours. Don't forget to take some water with you.

When you arrive, finally, at the cave you will be asked to pay 10 Euros for the entry and even when the tour is very very short - come on, you deserve it. The tour through the grotta takes about 15 minutes and it is only ca. 500 m long. You will walk though few 'rooms' that are open to the public, however, that is only a tiny piece of the whole cave.

On the way down the stairs to Grotta di Nettuno you will see beautiful scenery. You will have plenty of time to capture it's beauty on the way back. Down it takes about 10-15 minutes, up about 30-45. Enjoy and don't forget to drink loads of water ;)

Su Nuraxi

by bluedook

Visit Su Nuraxi it is the best Nuraghic site on the island. Aprrarently it dates from around 1500 bc. Looking at the site from the outside it is a little disapointing. but it rather like the Tardis in Dr Who, it is much bigger on the inside. Guided tours every 1/2 hour
