Costa Smeralda/Porto Cervo

by JennysTravels

If spending 18euro on a cup of caffe is your thing then you will love this area. Billion dollar boats line the marina. The pavements sparkle and glitter beams of sunlight as the rich and famous saunter down it's streets. This is where the elite of the elite come to get their relax on.But for me, show me the real Sardegna. Show me it's people, the real food, the real tastes and the real culture. I only drove through Costa Smeralda on one cloudy day, it's beautiful I can see that. But for me there is no allure. I find it like a fake plastic circus run by the richest of rich...a place for me where if you don't have the money, you don't fit in. Now that's not my cup of caffe.Just my thoughts.Travel on!

Wandering Animals

Another tidbit while you are cruising the roads here...BEWARE of the animals. They can jump out from anywhere. Give them the respect they deserve and drive a little slower and allow them time.Animals:CowsSheepWild BoarSnakesDogsCats

Drinking in Sardegna, Italy.

by JennysTravels

Now if you can polish of a bottle of red while sitting in your 9-5 and feel groovey, don't expect the same here in Sardegna. The vino here is lethal, homemade and just plain yummy. So don't go getting all bravado and think you can polish it all off as you will be in for a head spin. I don't know if it's the mountain air or sea breezes that inhibit the senses more while your here...but that's my final warning.

Driving: Sardegna, Italy

by JennysTravels

Now watch out! Watch that curve, see that hairpin, don't drive too fast...but everyone else does.Well forget about everyone else, forget what the locals do for this matter all together! They drive fast and sneak up on you, over take on twisty curvy roads. It's not for the faint of heart!REMEMBER: Always wear your seatbelt!!! Not many locals do...but there's a lot of things backwards in this amazing island! Just be smart about the road. Your on holiday there's no use in rushing...enjoy the scenery and count the sheep.*please see related video "Mountain Roads."-in your video section of VT.

What's that got to do with the price of fish...

by sourbugger

well quite alot actually. You would think that an island, surrounded as it is by sea, with a cusine which features fish and seafood in abundance would provide a geat place to eat fish. But be warned ! the prices of fish in many restaurants are calculated per 100g (written in very small type on the menu). An avergae sized piece of Sea Bass might well weigh about 600g for a very average sized meal. Nobody seems to mind if you ask them to give you a 'quote' for you dish.P.S this Sardinian jelly-fish just deserves to be eaten. It looks suspiciously like a fried egg on top of a burger.

Cagliari - Ospedale S. Giovanni Di Dio

by shirez

I arrived to Sardinia on Wednesday, and Thursday morning broke my nose by playing beach volleyball. It wasnt that bad, but they called the ambulance to save my soul. The ambiulance was in the village in 10 minutes and decided to take me to a hospital in Cagliari, which is 50 km but pretty dangerous serpentine leads there, so it is 1 hour driving.I was fixed in the stretcher and the ambulance turned the sound on and drove like my nose was about to fall down. We arrived to Cagliari in 30 min. I was wheeled till the doctor, and unfortunately i was freezing, because i wore only a bikini, a wet one, because on the beach it was terribly hot and just had a shower before the accident. So the doctors managed to give me a bedsheet to cover myself. Then i was wheeled to the make an x-ray and back then i had an appointment with the ORL (nose specialist) then i got a nice, trendy plaster and they let...

I dont need to mention any special warning. its a quiet island without thieves or pickpockets.Although i didnt see themFriends of mine had told me that Sardinia was a place for "rich or accomodate people.. and its true above all you can notice it in Costa Smeralda, from golfo Aranci to the north and Casterlsardo to northeast. Is the most expensive area. therefore dangers dont exist or i havent any problem

Local drivers

by sniem

Driving in Sardegna can be pretty adventurous, the locals often drive like crazy. There are many old and very slow cars, so those who have faster cars overtake whenever they feel like it - in curves, in front of hills etc.

If you do not want you or your vehicle to become a temporary scar on the landscape I would suggest developing a sixth sense. Drive very carefully. some of the mountanous roads have hair pin bends. Do not allow the locals, who know the roads, make you push your speed up! Better late than never!
