by Krystynn Venetian glass is famous the world over. However, they don't come cheap. But they are a good investment! Murano, an island located near Venice, is still regarded as being synonymous with the production of the finest and most elegant glasswares..... and they are often referred to as “cristallo” i.e. a brilliant, colorless glass made from imported sand containing silica and soda purified from plant ash. The recipe for making cristallo was a closely guarded secret for centuries. So, don't bribe the local Murano man into revealing his secrets! Si?
For the avid Murano glassware collector, you can buy these Murano-made Venetian glasses in Venice. Expect to pay at least US$500 and above for a tiny tea cup set. What's so good about these glasswares? I think Franklin Mall's The History of Murano Glassmaking has the best explanation, in my humble opinion. Yes, I am also a regular customer of theirs. ;-) And if you fall in love with Murano glass, you can always buy an original via their website: Franklin Mall - Murano Glass.
US$500 and above for a humble little teeny, weenie tea cup set. Yes, it can be shipped back to your homeland. Do ensure that you buy some form of insurance coverage - in the event of any unforeseen non-appearance of your Venetian glasswares! Theme: Local CraftDirections: Murano made glasswares can be purchased in Murano or Burano islands or in Venice itself.Website: http://www.franklinmall.com/murano/ Other Contact: Franklin Mall

This boutique needs no introduction by Krystynn This tip is strictly for the self-confessed Queen of High Fashion (as the title aptly states) and the chic fashionistas. I am sure the following names will not sound foreign to you.... - Roberto Cavalli - Dolce e Gabbana - Emilio Pucci - Gianni Versace - Giorgio Armani - Missoni Note: Please click onto the links above and it'll bring you to each of these designer's official websites. Have fun!
Heck, I'll probably score 100% distinction if there's an exam on Italian 'Moda' (Fashion) and Designers. :-) Let's put it this way: the French designers used to reign supreme in the fashion world but not any more! They have surrendered this prestigious crown to the Italian designers. Nobody can design outfits better than the likes of Armani, Dolce e Gabbana, Cavalli and gang. These designers treat each fabric like a work of art - yes, like how Michelangelo would sculpt his "David" masterpiece. Italian-made 'scarpe' (shoes) are also the BEST in the world. Ask the girls from "Sex and the City"! Whilst Carrie from "Sex and the City" swears by her Manolo Blaniks, I swear only by Salvatore Ferragamo and have been his ardent tifosa (fan) since 1985. It's so comfortable and beautiful - and not that expensive compared to say, Gucci, Versace or Fendi. Even if you find shopping a real bore, try and psyche yourself up and go for a stroll along such glam avenues like Via Condotti & Via Veneto in Rome or Via Montenapoleone in Milan. Those places are - Destinazione Paradiso! ;-) No? P.S. Better not let your boyfriends, partners or husbands know these names. They might chain you to the bed post and not let you out of the house or hotel room! ;-D
For shoes, expect to part with at least EUR200 onwards.... Theme: Women's ClothesAddress: Via Condotti in Rome; Via Montenapoleone in MilanDirections: Feel free to ask any Italian fashionista on the streets of Rome or Milan or any city and towns in Italy... They'll be able to point you the way to these famous boutiques.Website: http://www.ferragamo.com/ Other Contact: Salvatore Ferragamo, Italia

by elmasri Great value for money, I thought. I bought a pair of Armani boots for 110 euros. In the UK any pair of decent boots are around £60-£80 anyway...
Try the designer shops - they are more affordable than in the UK and the fashion is definitively more eccentric.

by marco2005 I guess you all know what Yellow Pages are. I guess you all know how to use it, too. But I've found in the forums that someone need a hint about how to search in our Italian Yellow Pages. If you are looking for a shop in a certain location, you can use the Pagine Gialle websearch Type in (Italian) what kind of shop you are looking for (e.g. "strumenti musicali") and where to search (e.g. "Firenze") if there are not enough shops you can extend the search to the full province here is the Florence's province results (you can also extend the search to the whole region of Tuscany) For every result you can see the map about the location. Easy!

Ponte Vecchio by Jmill42 Some of the greatest shopping stores are here. Not that the stores offer things much different from other places, but you can only shop for things on Ponte Vecchio in Florence! It really is a unique shopping experience on this bridge, but don't limit yourself to this area. For serious fashion afficionados, there is another area, located on and around Via della Vigna Vecchia and Via Tornabuoni streets, where you can spend your childrens college tuition! Here is where you will find the usual suspects of fashion trendsetters Prada, Boss, Ferragamo, etc. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
