Multiple Mercatos!: Florence's Markets

by Jmill42

One of Florence's greatest attributes, to me, is its mercatos (markets). You will find yourself getting lost in these places. They run the gamut from tourist centered to those catered to locals, but whichever ones you chose, you will not be disappointed. I’ve listed my two favorites here, but there are numerous others throughout the city. Mercato Centrale: Beginning with the epicenter for epicurean delights, Mercato Centrale is your one-stop shop for all things edible. The dazzling array of fruits, meats, vegetables, and cheeses is enough to make your salivary glands run at full speed, and you would do well to get your picnic needs here, as they are the freshest and, most often, cheapest gets in town.Mercato San Lorenzo: In this market a short walk from the Duomo, you will find all the leather goods you could possibly want. Occasionally, you can find a good deal on clothing and jewelry...

Firenze Fashion: Tuscan Tips

by Jmill42

Some of the greatest shopping stores are here. Not that the stores offer things much different from other places, but you can only shop for things on Ponte Vecchio in Florence! It really is a unique shopping experience on this bridge, but don't limit yourself to this area. For serious fashion afficionados, there is another area, located on and around Via della Vigna Vecchia and Via Tornabuoni streets, where you can spend your childrens college tuition! Here is where you will find the usual suspects of fashion trendsetters Prada, Boss, Ferragamo, etc.

Rome: Christ, Where Do I Start...

by Jmill42

I don't see how one could talk about Italy and not talk about fashion, so I will try and list the best places to make your credit card smoke when touring the cities I have visited. Also, I will try and list the specialty of the region if its applicable.Rome. Well, just about anything your heart desires is here. Mercato dell'Antiquariato di Fontanella Borghese: The selection of cheap art prints is the best in Italy. Located around Palazzo Borghese. Via Condotti: The mecca for all things Prada, Gucci and the like, but expect to pay for it!!!Via del Corso: A shoppers haven. Everything from Nike to chocolate to McDonalds to DVD's and everything in between can be had here. Also, very convienent to Via Condotti...Via Veneto: This seems to be one of the better known streets for shopping, so I will list it, but I found that the selection and prices left something to be desired. Via Condotti and...

Pasta Varieties

by antlau

You can find a wide varieties of pasta in most of the grocery stores all over Italy. But the varieties differ from region to region. Today pasta comes in more than 300 varieties. Two different kinds can be distinguished: (1) Pasta secca describes pasta made from durum semolina and water, which is sold dried and rarely made at home. (2) Pasta fresca or pasta fatta in casa means the fresh, homemade pasta, with a dough consisting of wheat flour, egg, and possibly a little water or white wine.

Prada Outlet: Outlets in Tuscany

by iloveaustria

I visited the Prada Outlet twice lately and each time found some really good buys. It is still expensive but compared to what you would pay in the USA, it is a bargain. The store is actually called SPACE. They had a good selection of purses and shoes. About half of what you would pay in the USA.

by elmasri
