Since it eas on our route south (SS114) we turned left at the center of Aci Castello(there may have been a sign for the Castello?).We headed toward the sea and the street dead-ended at a well appointed piazza-like area. We parked and walked out onto the belvedere-quay for a rewarding view (on our overview Sicily page).To the left (N) a rocky shoreline with some beached fishing boats, extending seaward in the mid-distance to a group of powerful basalt volcanic rocks, the Faraglioni or Isole de Ciclopi. One large enough to be called an "islet" jutting out of the sea. Further in the distance (2km) Aci Trezza could be dimly seen. On the right a steep finished walkway(barred half-way up) leads to the Castello whose visible ruins are perched at the top of this immense volcanic rock before which we stand. It was purportedly open daily and houses a Museo and the area was deserted so one must append "in season?"(whenever that is). This view of the Cyclops Coast was worth the stop! Leave a Comment
