One of my favorite things about Giardini Naxos was the view of Mount Etna. Mornings were the best time for us to see the snow covered summit of the volcano with the sun shining on it and before the clouds rolled in.
From our hotel, we were able to get a good unobstructed view of Etna and then as we walked along the beach, the volcano was always a presence wherever we went.
Be sure to wake up early enough to catch this stunning view of Mount Etna – clouds were rolling in by 10:00 a.m. which obscured the view – but I liked the lighting at sunrise the best!
Favorite thing: Being where the Greeks first landed, you can see the archaeological dig outs in the Naxos area between Giardini and Recanti. There is also a reasonably nice seafront area with some touristy shops, vegetable grocers, bars and restaurants as well as a handful of budget hotels, but no major nightlife. Further towards the railway station is the nicest part of town with the Town Hall in its square full of orange trees, and with a more genuine feel to it.
