We walked back along the seafront from the archaeological park towards the railway station checking out various restaurants and ended up in this one. It was a good choice.
The menu that had enticed us in was interesting, but we ended up choosing from the specials board. My husband had 'Polpettine di Seppia e Mandorle’ (cuttlefish balls with almonds) and I had spaghetti with swordfish roe.
We were also served delicious fresh warm tomato and olive bread rolls.
This restaurant is not the cheapest, but it's worth it. When the bill came it was presented in a lavish gift box, surmounted by a gold fish.
Favorite Dish: The polpettine di seppia e mandorle were excellent, served on a bed of couscous.
A lovely restaurant along the seafront, pleasant & attentive service, good local wine, very reasonable prices. We had a table outside and really enjoyed our meal: calamari (squid) and swordfish were really fresh and delicious. Would go there again!
We enjoyed our first visit to Redezvous so much, we returned later during the week we spent at Naxos. The service was good. The food right up to expectations and the house wine good despite the low cost.
The menus at restaurants in this part of the world seem to be standardised but with a great variety of choice anyway.
Prices were very reasonable entree 5-10 euro; first plates 8 to 15 euro. Wine 1/2 litre 4 euro.
There were both indoor and outdoor dining areas. Non smoking within.
Favorite Dish: We elected to start with a classic bruscetta for madam & a bruscetta mista. The rocket on the B/mista was just wonderful - the tastiest I have ever encountered. (This has promoted a search for something as good back home. I have tasted first, & purchased packets that I couldn't test . All have been rather bland. Have only recently found some nearly as good.)
Our mains: Pescespada alla grigia (grilled swordfish) & a grilled seafood platter with side of mixed salad and chips. A most enjoyable meal. Total bill for 2 = 43euro.
The open-air restaurant of Arathena Rocks Hotel is situated near the pool, and located by the beach.
It serves not only drinks, but offers an excellent choice of luch-snacks, like Spaghetti any style, salads and - my favorite - fresh Italian tomatoes with virgin olive oil, Balsamico and Mozarella, accompanied by a crisp Panini.
It should go with a glass of dry, local Sicilian wine - happiness pure !
Favorite Dish: see above
This cafe serves light snacks like salads, lasagne, omelettes, sandwiches (the omelette was really big though :)), ice creams, pastry and coffees (I liked how they served cafe latte - coffe and milk in separate jars - see foto). Delicious food, good service, breezy and cool atmosphere, reasonable prices (6 euros for that huge lasagne, 5.50 for the omelette of the house, 2.80 for that big coffee latte). The icing on the cake is the drinks of "vino di mandorla" - almond wine - they bring you with the cheque :)
This was our saviour as we wandered along lungomare Naxos, starving to death with all the regular restaurants closed for siesta (2pm-4pm). This welcoming gastronomia is open all day till midnight and is very popular with the locals (especially at night), probably that's why they even opened a second shop - Fantasy2 - in via Stromboli 9. Here you'll find most delicious arancini (a must to try when being in Sicilia!) - an egg-formed yellow ball of rice with ragu, spices, peas (the important thing - it should be warm, and in Fantasy it is, whereas many other places serve it cold). And don't forget to sample all those different slices of pizza (that's where the fantasy really rules) - with aubergines, eggs, spinach and even tuna! Oh, I'm getting hungry... And then it's cheap - 1.30 euro for a pizza slice or arancini
