    BE AWARE of summer laws

    by marco2005 Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    If you are intended to visit Vulcano island (as well as the others Eolie islands) be aware that in summer time is issued an ordination to limit the vehicular access.
    This last summer (2005) in the period 1st July - 30th September ONLY the resident locals can access with cars or motorcycles.
    The tourist can access with cars/motorcycles only if they can prove to have a reservation for a 7 days minimum stay.

    Note that this is what the law order;
    But what you could do practically, is another matter of fact.
    In august 2002 I went there with my Vespa, no booking, just a tent, and I spent two days on the island with no problem at all.

    From Vulcano to Lipari

    In Port Levante you can book a local boat to Lipary. It's a good idea to book it before climbing to Vulcano (the climbing takes about 2-3 hours). We asked to put our luggage before climbing, so the 385 to Gran Crater was not so difficult. It not exists the schedule to Lipari, but each hour you can find a boat.
