The town is full of pubs and cafes where people meet from 9 pm on, at outdoors tables and just for a chat on the nearby square La Dolce vita is right in the Piazza del Duomo and is very lively.
Useless to mention the quality of coffee or icecream or cornetti. One place or other at regards doesnt make any difference ;)
It is difficult to mention which pub is better because trends in Messina change frequently so, just ask around what is the best place of the moment when you are there.
Dress Code: Not too much sportive - looking like, usually trendy and ``clean``with a taste of italian style, naturally.
