I think the better period for a tourist is from May to July, September is perfect too. Early spring is still very changeable with possible windy storms or sudden hot days, while later July and august is really really hot and trip can turn unpleasant.
Summer: cotton clothes and t-shirts, shorts, sandals and naturally a range of nice bath-suits!
Winter: coat, raincoats, leather jackets. (Temperature reaches seldom under 5C in winter, summer can be up to 42C).
In some parts of Messina beaches water is very cold because of the strait, this implies the frequent presence of jelly fish so...bring always with you an appropriate medicine.

Be prepared. The weather is different on top of the volcano. It was a hot,sunny ,clear day at the bottom of Mt Etna....at least 40 c, when we visited .As we made are way towards the top, it became much cooler and quite cloudy. I am guessing about 17c. If it is spring or autumn when you visit, I would definately bring a jacket.....even if it is warm at the bottom. Bring comfortable shoes if you want to climb the craters.
I would make sure to use flash and bring at least 400 speed flim. It is cloudy up there. Leave a Comment
