New Years Eve in Siracusa

by MikeBird

We had seen the temporary stage which had been erected in the Piazza del Duomo in the heart of Ortigyia, the old town of Siracusa, and we had imagined there was going to be a free concert by some local bands. Instead at about 11.30pm there were local celebrities doing a non stop chat show with, what looked like, links to local TV and radio. The hotel on the Piazza had been doing a tremendous trade in drinks ( at extortionate prices) and the milling crowd were all good humoured with many families present and the occasional dog as well. Every now and then fireworks were let off but this was closely monitored by the Polizei who were also evident in their uniforms. At midnight there was a spectacular display of fireworks high in the night sky. Many bottles of fizzy wine were opened and shared around. Some people were dancing to the music and there was generally a lovely atmosphere. A...

Catania & Palermo: Best Nightlife in Sicily

by Propermark

The best nightlife you can find in Sicily is in Catania and Palermo..Catania is well known among Sicilians and maybe Italians. Here you'll find plenty of bars, pubs and discos open everyday of the week. You may find people going out and staying till late every single day. You can also walk in the city centre and distances are not too big. Palermo has got a good nightlife as well but there are some main differences to Catania. Palermo is bigger and you need a car when moving from a club/pub to another one. There are also some areas of the city where many pubs, bars and clubs are really gathered one next to the other so you just need to walk. You will find students going out from Tuesday till Thursday and all the others going out mainly on Friday and Saturday. I love Palermo even though living here I don't always appreciate all the positive things we have, and I mainly notice the bad...

Il Panino Di Notte: After Dinner Walk and Midnight Snack

by deecat

The night we stayed in Siracusa, we walked to a seafood restaurant that we had been told was the best in the city. Siracusa has a strange numbering system, and we had a difficult time finding the restaurant. The walk ended up being about three miles from our hotel! The walk was worth it.After the delicious meal, we decided to walk back to the hotel because we needed to "walk off the meal".This time, it was a leisurely walk without frantically looking at numbers on the buildings.Once we arrived back to the area close to our hotel, we saw this late-night stand called Il Panino Di Notte, which was really a sandwich place, but they offered way more. Thus, we stopped to see if they had gelatoThey did offer gelato so Allan and I each had a single dip. We did not think that it would be good because they offered so much here. We were wrong. The gelato was, indeed, delicious. It was fun bantering...

Banacher: Always a party in Sicily!

by bhorton

The best places are outside of Catania and Syracuse. Try out `Banacher,` 20 minutes up the coast from Catania. It´s an outdoor club with palm trees and all. It fills to about 2,000 people! The drinks are exremely expensive, just like in New York, but it´s worth it. There is always a pretty long line, but like usual, American girls don´t have to wait in line, so if you´re a lady, just walk up to the front, and if you´re not a female, find some (non-locals)before you go out, or plan on waiting, trust me it matters. Plan on a 10 Euro cover. Also, try out Strike Bar, across from Sigonella naval/air base. It´s a hot spot if you can find it. I´m not in the military, and I myself was amazed how great the bars were around the base, but the way Americans party (I´m guilty) I shouldn´t be suprised. Also go to Waxy O'connor's Pub, dowtown Catania. (P.zza Spirito Santo, 1) At all clubs: dress...

Good night life if your going to be staying in the Taormina or Naxos areas. Along the coastal front there's bars and a club that played house music. Italians dress GQ, so try to keep up
