Piazza del Duomo: going out in the square
Public squares in historical cities draw people together in the evenings - with the facades and pavements well lit and stairs in front of important buildings inviting to sit down and slower the step.
One can feel such lively atmosphere at Piazza del Duomo in Ortigia island. It is wonderful open place with irregular shape - pleasant and relaxed, enclosed by finest historical architecture (Duomo, Palazzo Beneventano del Bosco, Palazzo del Senato, the Church of Santa Lucia). Nobody seem to hurry here; people talk to eachother, mingle with strangers, tourists sip coffe, wine or beer, take photos while others come to see Duomo in last minutes before closure. Most just sit down on the stairs before cathedral and when you do - it's like being in theatre; it's good spot to observe people and their interactions. Many late day minutes can be spend on this square - indeed very nice ones.

Seafront on Ortygia: Where everyone meets
The seafront on the city centre island of Ortygia is full of restaurants and bars where people quench their thirst or sit and relax during the hot hours of the day. In the evening, the place is bustling with people out for a drink or a meal and it is very atmospheric when the lights reflect into the sea below. I missed the full moon but people say it is even more special then and one of the restaurants has a lunar name as if to emphasise this.
Dress Code: You are welcome in almost anything but of course Italians always dress up a bit for dinner themselves...

Dress Code: This is Italy - the bella figura is everything - so not super smart - but pretty cool - anything goes.....
