Forza Palermo

by Cuorerosanero

Undoubtedly the highlight of any visit to Sicily is a trip to the spectacular Stadio Renzo Barbera, Palermo known locally as La Favorita and here on a Sunday afternoon from September to April you can see the mighty Rosaneri play. For years they were one of the worst teams in the world, I can remember Seria C2, but now it's a completely different story! They are so good that Seria A and the UEFA cup are now the norm.If you are touring Sicily and wish to see a football match I would still recommend Palermo as the other two Seria A teams are not as good, particularly Catania.Tickets are available from the SNAI bookmakers found all over the city and are best bought in advance as it gets hectic on Saturday, and don't forget to take a document for both buying the tickets and getting into the stadium.I go in the curva sud superiore, it's cheaper, there's a good view and I'm scared to go in the...

Stromboli: hiking to the volcano's crater

by call_me_rhia

You start form Punta Labronzo where there's warning sign that you should ignore. This is where youleave the road and follow the path up to the mountain. What can I say? Going up is a little torture: the path is very steep and especially rocky…but well, it’s that type of volcanic rock that breaks under your shoes, so you walk 3 steps up and slide 2 steps down. The first stop, at about 600 m a/s is the “Sciara del Fuoco”: a sort of a vertical half-pipe down the mountain where the material erupted flows down in the sea. From this point onwards the noise made by the mountain becomes very loud and sometimes the ground shakes a little. At about 900 m a/s/l you reach a sort of natural terrace with some rudimental stone huts: this is the place where people stop overnight to look at the eruptions. The view is impressive and scary, the noise very loud (the volcano sounds like a cannon) and the...

Vulcano: hiking to the volcano's crater

by call_me_rhia

About 1 km from the harbour, following the road inland, there's an evident path that leads to the volcano'scratercrater. It's made of red rock, and local people have cut a spectacular way through it . The landscape is lunar and bare, except for the rare ginestra flower. When you reach the top the scenery turns from red to yellow as you approach the fumaroles and the ground is covered by yellow and white sulphuric crystals. Warning signs start to appear, informing u that: 1- the ground is hot and you can burn yourself, 2- the sulphuric gases can choke you if you go too near. We ignored them, of course, since we wanted to collect some crystals. it takes about one hour to the crater, and another 30 minutes to walk around it comfortable shoes - if possible hiking boots - are necessary. Also bring some water: the area is completely drive

Very simple to organize: ropes, goals, and blue deep water. It was very interesting watching the game!
