Da Angelina: Bad & more bad touristy menu

by croisbeauty Written Sep 15, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Ristorante&Pizzeria

Thanks to our guide we had a "magnificent" lunch at the reastaurant & pizzeria called Da Angelina. The guide was forcing us to leave Taormina, rushing like hell, because we had to reach on time at this restaurant. It was big disappointment for the whole gruop because lunch was literaly pathetic and barely eatable. The restaurant is located at the nice place, in fact pretty much attractive, but the ambient in the restaurant is forgetable.
I bet our guide got very good provvision for taking nas here.

Favorite Dish: It is hard to remember when I had such a bad food, we paid it 25 euros but it was thrown money. The first dish was suppose to be some kind of fish soup but all I could remember is tepid and light brown coloured "something", milles away of what fish soup should be alike. The second dish I barely remember, we got some grilled fish which tasted fish alike but was too cold for eating.

    cute streets of toarmina

One of many restaurants in a little alley. Great food, very reasonable prices, wide selection.

Favorite Dish: Sicily is known for it's seafood. Everything I've had here is very good. The stuffed calamari, though, are to die for.

Ristorante "La Buca": ONLY THE BEST IN SICILY

by travelgourmet Written Apr 23, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    SICILIAN INVOLTINI

When dining in Taormina, look for a restaurant that has an outside patio with table that have a view of the sea below. The meal will seem ten times better due to the rush of goodfeel the sea and the climbing hills to where you sit befall your senses. La Buca is such a place and well worth waiting for a table by the wall outside. The ambience of smiling faces at all the tables, filled with laughter and hearts full of song, keeps this restaurant in good standing. The dishes of sicily are the main attraction, even if the view gets a 5-star review. Add a good Sicilian wine and you too will be enamored. The best review is to say, "I am returning".

Favorite Dish: Involtini is a Sicilian specialty and should be tried. Pieces of veal rolled with one of many foods stuffed inside, from cheeses to hams, stuck four to a stick placed in a fryng pan dripping with hot olive oil and cooked to a golden brown perfection. Once you have tasted the flavors and commented on the ease in which your mouth succumbed to the delicate dish, you are hooked. Not found in too many restaurants outside of Sicily.

    La Botte: Quaint and Cute

by HELEN Written Jul 9, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This restaurant is one of many located in the narrow streets of Taormina. It has an outside seating area that's surrounded by grape vines. Very cute. This menu has a large variety of sea food entrées.

Favorite Dish: Spaghetti with Clams may have been the best on the menu. Actually any seafood dish is the best in Sicily.

Cosmopolitan Da Pippo: Hospitable hosts, fine food, and spectacular views

We found this place completely by chance. We were trying to walk into another restaurant (the Bar Europa, if I'm not mistaken), when we were stopped by a nice elderly Sicilian woman who told us it was closed. She led us to the Cosmopolitan da Pippo, and introduced us to an elderly gentleman called Guiseppe, who apparently was the owner of the place. Although neither of them spoke a word of English (coupled with the obvious of us not speaking a lick of Sicilian or Italian), they were very nice and led us up to the terrace where I took the pictures you are looking at now.

I think you'll all agree that there is not many things better than drinking good booze while looking out at some of the most dramatic scenery you'll ever see, while listening to Sicilian music playing in the background.

Even though they provided menus to us-whenever we ordered something-the elderly lady, (who to our surprise ended up cooking for us), said "No! No!" And pointed to the Macaroni Pomodora. She then pointed to herself and said "specialty." Now I'm the pickiest eater you have ever seen in your life, so I was a little worried about taking the recommendation. But I did, and it was AWESOME. The macaroni was handmade and the tomato sauce was excellent. (I could have done without the green peas being put in it, but like I said, I'm picky.)

If you have favorable weather, like we had, make sure you dine outdoors. The views are incredible. Should the weather not cooperate, you will still have a memorable dining and drinking experience in the main dining room, as it too offers panoramic views of the dramatic scenery.

Favorite Dish: Macaroni Pomodora, Prosciutto Fromaggio, with the house wine.

After lunch or dinner you definitely have to drink what Castelmola is famous for-Vina Alla Mandorla, which in English means "Wine of Almonds." Absolutely unbelievable, and I'm not much of a wine drinker. It is designated as an appertive and great at dessert, and can also be turned into a good cocktail when chilled.

Bottles of Vina alla Mandorla can be purchased from the Cosmopolitan Da Pippo or the Bar Europa, a short walk away.

    SAINT HONORE: HAND HELD HEAVEN

by travelgourmet Written Apr 23, 2006

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    CANNOLI HEAVEN

A bar, pasticceria, gelateria, tavola calda, produzione propria of the finest desserts. Saint Honore is a name for bakery shops throughout the world. This Saint Honore sits on the main street of Taormina and as the town itself is a storybook local, so is the Saint Honore. It fulfills the pangs of thirst and hunger as well as quelling the sweet tooth. In the tiny space of sitting, due to the enormous display cases filled with the foods and desserts of Sicily, one can partake of many different tastes. Try to get a table, so that you can enjoy the flavors in a relaxed manner over an espresso.

Favorite Dish: What is being in Sicily without having a cannoli. These little gems of rolled pastry filled with riccotta cheese that has a flavoring from amaretto to vanilla, mixed with pieces of nuts, fruit, or chocolate served plain or coated in powered sugar or chocolate is pastry heaven.

Ristorante Baronessa: Greatt food and lovely view

by johnaalex Updated May 17, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This is rated as one the best places to eat in Taormina and I can see why. Even though we were only staying 4 nights in Taormina we ate here twice - and there is no shortage of other places. The food was really of the highest quality and the service was impeccable. It is advisable to book in advance to secure a table close to the window so that you can enjoy the panoramic view while you dine.

Favorite Dish: The fillet of beef in thin pastry with procini mushrooms and parmesan cheese served in a rich red wine sauce. Top quality meat cooked perfectly, a very tasty dish.

    How to Order food

by mabu Updated May 25, 2003

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Sicilian Food

Ordering food in Sicily is a bit unusual for us. You order the Starter first, and for the main course you order the meat, vegetable and side order sepperatly!!

In Taormina the menu cards are available in italian and normaly english and german.

Of course some red vine (you will be fine with the house vine normaly) belongs to any meal like the espresso afterwards.

On the menu card you will always find a price called "coperto" this price you pay anyway and is for the cover and the bread you get on the table.

    Ristorante a Zammara

The food served here is ecxellent. Typical sicilian food. The service is friendly and prety quick, the choice of different food and wines is very good. I can reccomend the wine of the house, it was the best we got in Taormina (but the most expensive too...)

    Spada!

The restaurants in Corso Umberto are expensive and touristy and you will find lots better if you turn a corner into the side streets. Nevertheless, wherever you go you will have great views and mostly good Italian food such as grilled swordfish (if you're not too bothered about fishing ethics).

    Insalata Caprese

One reason to go to Italy is the food. Who doesn't know pizza, pasta, spaghetti, bruschetta and other?
Of course Italian food tastes best in Italy...

Here is my favorite Italian Salad: Insalata Caprese, Mozzarella and Tomato salad with fresh basil, with a few drops of olive oil and aceto balsamico. mmmhhh. It tastes specialy nice with fresh sun-ripened tomatoes.

We used this salad to compare prices at different restaurants too, as you can find it on every menu card
