If you have small children, see my Giardini-Naxos page as that is a far better place to stay with them. The beaches are child friendlier and you don't have to wait for the cable car (or bus) to take you down to the beaches. Many hotels up here have no childrens pools either. If not, you'll probably have a nice enough time swimming here in the shade of Isola Bella or just up and down the coast from Taormina.
