I was amazed to see this East European Gipsy bagger even down at Sicily. To be honest, I don't like them at all because of previous very bad experience in the city of Bologna. Even while bagging they aren't honest and sincere, if giving them just a smallest chance they will rob you. Do not let them to approach to you, make sure the distance in between is at least one meter, they have quick hands and are skillfull pisckpocketers.
Another warning, they never operating alone, somwhere around is at least one of their partners.
Taormina was meant to be one of the beautiful places in Sicily to visit!
This may be so, but not when four Cruise ships are in port, and then add in the other Tourist's, and Taormina became an over-crowded town.
We wanted to see the Greek Theatre, but never did. The crowd was like at a "pop concert." We were jammed packed, shoulder against shoulder in the heat. Breathing for me was difficult, so we turned around, had a quick look around the town, and headed back to Messina rather disappointed.
The only enjoyable time to visit here, would be in the morning or the late afternoon, before the hoard's of Tourist's arrived, or after they had left, then it would be nice!
Such a shame, I feel this town has been spoilt, and we missed a lot!
The traffic in Taormina is terrible. They drive like maniacs in the small and narrow streets. And they will not stop or slow down when they see people. You have to jump to the side and stay there. And there are almost no sidewalks, and if there is - be sure that it will be filled with cars or mopeds. So take care of yourself and your children!
I arrived at Catania airport and then I went to the higway to Taormina. There was a lot of trafic, I spent 4,5 hours to make a trip that usually is made in one hour or so. I don't know why this happened, and I didn't found anyone that could explain me why there was so many traffic, so stay alert and try to choose another hour to arrive or at least ask for a traffic information at the airport and if things are in trouble go to Taormina later...:)
The cable way.....this is how you will go to the beach if you want to walk. Avoid to leave the beach about 18:30h...this is the time everybody goes and so you will have to wait your time to get a lift up the hill. Expect to wait about 30 minutes or so, depending. So, as a rule, I would say that you should leave the beach earlier or later than rush hour :)
This is the most dangerous road crossing i've seen. There are no footpaths and loads of cars from all directions. The walls of the buildings around make it impossible to see all the traffic coming when you need to cross the road. So watch out!!!
Its the crossing of via Cappuccini, Via Timeo and via C Patrizio.
