Trapani Off The Beaten Path

Egadi islands are a set of three little island situated on the very west coast of Trapani, they are part of a maritime natural reserve.
Favignana: Located about 17 kilometers southwest of Trapani, this is the largest of the Egadi, or Egidean, Islands. Still known for their tuna (tunny) fishing, these islands are now famous as beach resorts. Favignana, in particular, is a favorite spot for Sicilian sun worshipers. The ferries from Trapani arrive at the port city of Favignana, from which transportation to the other islands (Levanzo, Marettimo) is available. Most of Favignana's beachgoers are Italian; it seems that few foreign visitors venture this far.
The best deal and fun is renting a boat in 'Marausa' which is a little sea place 20 kms far from Trapani, you can have a boat for 4 people all the day for only 70 euro including 20 litres of petrol.
But if you go by boat then be sure to remember where you come from, take something as referement point, it might be not that easy to find the spot where you left from, when you are in the open sea the coastal details become smaller and smaller. Have fun!

Erice, is an enchanting medieval little 5000 inhabitants town on the peak of the Erice mountain which is just 15 mins far from ( just the time to drive up to it ) Trapani, what you can see in the back even if not much is the Castle of Venus.
There is a lot to see, you can find many intersting ceramic shops, and food and sweets and bakers are extremely fine.
We locals sometimes we go to Erice when in Trapani gets too hot and humid, it is fresher there of course at 750m of height ...like a huge conditioner :)
A visit in Erice is a must if you visit Trapani or just the west side of Sicily.

you can rent one of these 'bikes' to get a bit around although San Vito is very small, but they are good fun , but be carefull after all you are still in Italy and traffic can be difficult :))), joking these are allowed only on pedestrian areas and to area with limitated traffic, but check brakes and all the rest work properly before renting them, even if they r maintained regularly.
Price about 5 euro per hour. People 4 maximum

Venus castle from another view, if your asking yourself why so foggy the answer is because i of course went there on winter when i have taken these pics, but it also gives a particualr fashion to Erice, they say that when there is the fog in Erice it is venus breath to make it ;)..... or maybe they r ghosts!! =D
