Trapani welcome card for 3 day's unlimited city bus use, 1 return trip to Erice and 50% off different entrance fees € 9,50 is good value if you plan to go to Erice and stay at 2 day's, not if you go only to Erice.

On arrival at Trapani (Birgi) Airport, buy a ticket in the arrivals hall, the bus company is AST, and you will see a AST bus stop with a timetable right outside the the front of the arrivals hall. The tickets are 1euro70c (as at 30/10/2008). The bus stops at the train station/bus station in Trapani and also the port.
On the return trip the tickets can be bought on the bus.

Try the link below for the timetable.

Cable way to Erice

There is a cable way in the outskirt of Trapani, it's very comfortable, not crowded and it takes you just few meters from the entrance gate of the beautiful Erice. I really don't understand why people there fought for a place in the car park when the cable way is the most comfortable way to reach Erice. There are buses to reach the cable way lower station from Trapani city centre.
There is also a funny thing about this cable way because on the tickets and around in the station, they left the ski logo, maybe the company that built it, also builds cable way on the mountains, for skiing resorst. The result is that in a hot sunny day, in southern italy, in a place which was more similar to a desert rather than a ski resort, you can see ski logos all around.

There are lots of ferries leaving from Trapani's harbour. The most appreciated destination is Favignana Island, about 30 min from Trapani, but you can also go to Levanzo and Marettimo, the other two islands off the coast of Trapani.

Buses

I was very surprise to see the service is very punctual.
I used the buses quite much: to go to the airport, first of all. In this case buses are not very frequent unfortunately and it may be convenient to take a taxi but in some cases you may be lucky and you'll be able to take a public bus to the city centre from the airport or in the opposite direction.
I used public buses also to reach the cable way to Erice, leaving from a square very close to the city beach. The bus stopped something like 100m from the cable way station.
I used buses also to go to Palermo, it wasn't a city bus of course, but it was very comfortable and punctual the same.
There are buses to go quite everywhere, I saw some of them go to the beautiful San Vito Lo Capo, where the "riserva dello zingaro" is.

Bus services around Trapani

Bus services around Trapani are very affordable and regular. they're also punctual, so arrive on time! Make sure you always check the time of the last bus home because they can sometimes be surprisingly early. The young man behind the ticket point in Trapani bus station (restaurant) was good at providing this information.

Palermo Airport

The closest airport to the town is Trapani airport. From this airport however only very few flights are operating, such as Ryanair. Palermo airport which is about 1 hour drive away offers connections to Italy and some international flights. Trapani is connected to Palermo by highway.
Palermo airport does not offer many facilities; the public facilities were almost filthy, passing security one could see that part of the airport had been renovated
