Genova

by croisbeauty

I was in Genova 15 years ago, before this new visit, and found its Porto Antico completely renewed and very beautiful. It was amazing to see all changes made in such an relatively short time, those who remember old port at it used to be will agree with me. I got impression that the old port was back to life, having now the same importance which used to have centuries ago. ........

Educate Yourself BEFORE You Go

by RoscoeGregg

I have found that my travels to Italy have had much more meaning when I know a little about what I am looking at.A great thing to do before you leave for Italy is to visit the Open Yale Course web site. You can down load whole courses on topics relevant to visiting Italy. They have courses on things like Roman architecture, art history and the development of political thought. These courses made my last trip to Rome so much better. It made it easier to piece things together in a comprehensive way.So put that i-pod to work!!

Roma

by croisbeauty

Hmmm, it's not easy to express impressions about Rome, in particularly if mixed feelings. The final impression is definately positive, no doubts about it. No matter how chaotic it could be Rome is very nice place and a must see, at least for once in a lifetime. It is one of those places which absorbing us completely. The only question is, how long time we need to spend in Rome to see all what we would like to see and visit here? I am not sure if one week is good enough, ten days sounds like resonable time......

Siracusa

by croisbeauty

We stayed at Siracusa few hours of time, much longer then it was planned but it was forced due to a heavy rain. My first visit to Sicily will be remembered for the bad weather conditions and lots of rain.Besides historic sights, which are located in the outskirts of the town, Siracusa is known for its beautiful peninsula Ortigia where most of the highlits could be seen. To be honest, I did expect much more from this place and remained a bit disappointed. On the other hand, maybe it is heavy rain which spoiled all my expectations.%s?

Taormina

by croisbeauty

Sometimes we travel in a package arrangments, which am trying to avoid if any possible, but Sicily is too far from my home to travel there by the car. It was 4 days arrangment during Easter holidays and we travelled by the plain. Likewise any package arrangment we are forced to follow the will of our guide who will take us around strictly according to the programme which is usually wrongly planned. We had one our of time to explore enchanting Taormina and no matter fact it is relatively very small place it wasn't enough to see all what Taormina could offer. I will come here again, on my own, and stay at least overnight. This place deserve at least two days of staying.

Perugia - Cuore dell'Umbria

by croisbeauty

Perugia is in the heart of Italy's Green Heart, and the visitor will see at first glance that this expression is well suited to Umbria.Perugia is a city of art and culture that is surrounded by towns of smaller dimensions but not of lesser qualities, Assisi, Todi, Spoleto, Citta del Castello, Gubbio, Orvieto. The countryside between Perugia and the smaller towns is some of the most beautiful in Italy. From the gently rolling hills that surround Lake Trasimeno to the austere beauty of the Valnerina, passing through the fertile plain of the upper Tiber valley, the landscape offers a wide variety of natural beauty. There are great number of historical sights in Perugia, some of them a must see : Palazzo dei Priori, Oratorio di S. Bernandino, Arco Etrusco, Cattedrale di San Lorenzo and many many more.

Do not be afraid, just keep walking

by Ilney

From the walkside of Via dei Fori Imperiali is possible to see Forum of Trajan. The vast complex of libraries, market halls, gardens and colonnades could let you speechless. The most preserved are Trajan's Market and trajan's Column. The market was covered over in medieval times and redescovered in 1924.

Historical festivals, the past relived

by Trekki

No matter which part of Italy you want to visit, please make sure that you don’t miss the historical festivals in or nearby your destinations. These festivals are very prominent throughout the whole country, maybe slightly more in the regions along Appennine Mountains. The majority of the festivals are usually re-enactments of historical events and of course they have a tight bond to the respective region and are not a general Italian affair. Other festivals have a more seasonal background, such as the so-called Calendimaggio – the welcoming of spring and rebirth or renaissance. The festivals are mostly celebrated on weekends and less likely on specific dates as it is the case with religious festivals devoted to a saint. Many of them are paired with food and arts & crafts exhibitions and stalls. The artisans demonstrate historical craft skills and sell their objects like baskets,...

Amalfitan Coast

by solopes

Capital of "beach tourism" in Italy, this is, really, a very beautiful region. The beaches are small, but the views are great. And also the prices. That's the problem. Amalfi and its coast are, really, a selected place to selected people.
