Cooking Course - The Best Way To Experience Italy

by tigerjapan

So, you're off to experience everything Italy has to offer... great! I have one major suggestion for you... take a cooking course! We took one in Florence and it was so much fun.I have written about this school in my Florence pages, but I believe it warrants mentioning for anyone heading to Italy. Barbara Desderi's cooking school, is a fantastic way to learn about the food of this wonderful country and to prepare some of YOUR favourite dishes under her guidance.I researched a number of different schools and chose Barbara's due to the reasonable prices and her flexibility of menu. She asked us what we wanted to learn and built a menu around us. It was wonderful and well worth the money. If you have an interest in Italy, Italian food, cooking or just trying something different then I completely recommend "la PENTOLA delle MERAVIGLIE" cooking school.A WONDERFUL, FUN EXPERIENCE!

Must see with Kids

by Kaylei

One day we set off to find something specifically for our three year old-not an easy task in Italy. We found the zoo in Pistoia which is one of the best we have ever been to anywhere. It was fabulous. It was inexpensive and they have a ton of really cool animals. They also let you get really close and feed the tame ones (elephants, giraffes etc.) Fabulous!

ADVANCED RESERVATIONS FOR MUSEUMS

by thinking

Make plans to see at least one of the blockbuster temporary shows, but don't neglect the classics! We were the first to make it possible to book the Uffizi and the Accademia, plus Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper in Milan, and the breathtaking fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca in Arezzo.

The Pitti Palace (Palazzo Pitti) in Florence

by Paul2001

It speaks volumes about Florence that for such a small city that it has not one but two of the most important art collections in the Western World. I speak of course of the famed Uffizi Gallery and the lesser known but equally magnificent, Pitti Palace. This huge 16th century palace is the largest in Florence. The Palace eventually fell into the possession of the Medici Family. It actually houses more than one museum but it is most famous for the Palatine Gallery (Galleria Palatina). It is here that you will find a wonderful collection of Renaissance and Baroque masterworks by Italy's most brilliant artists. The Palatine is most renown for its collection of Raphael's but such artist as Titian, Veronese and Tinteretto are also strongly represented. There are also pieces by such non-Italians as Van Dyck and Rubens. The paintings are placed upon the walls in a rather haphazard fashion...

Boat, Train, or Walk The Cinque Terre

by deecat

The Cinque Terre consists of five small villages which "hang" on the cliffs overlooking the sea and is part of the Italian Riveria. There are not too many places to stay in these villages, and some of the best are way too expensive. Since a car is not practical, it is best to stay in Levanto and take the train or boat to the Cinque Terre. We stayed at the "Villa Margherita" in Levanto. We took a boat one time to one of the villages.Another time, we went by train. Between two of villages, we walked the trail. The boat took us past the five towns & stopped at Portovenere, which is an interesting port with breathtaking scenery. There is a castle-like structure which you can climb up to take super pictures of the sea, the sailboats, and the sunbathers. When we went by train, we caught a train to the last village of the Cinque Terre. We stayed long enough in each village to capture the...

Siena

by tini58de

Siena was my absolute favourite, when touring Tuscany. It is the medieval city par excellence, and I liked it so much better than Florence, because it is so much more intimate and what I found more "unique".The heart of Siena is the Campo, a the shell-shaped square where twice a year you can watch the famous Palio (a horse race). The townhall (also on the Campo) and the magnificent Cathedral are just two more highlights of this wonderful town!
