by Deborah_Bagg

Because I live in the United States, the only way into Italy is via air. If I could avoid flying altogether, I certainly would. For you Europeans, I expect taking trains are much more comfortable, not to mention more economical. If I lived in Europe, I certainly would. No questions about it, the best way around Italy is by train. Not always the fastest way, but most often the most economical. It gives you a chance to see parts of the country you would have otherwise missed, not to mention a chance to rest up a bit, and write home. The train systems go almost everywhere, and run frequently.

by Pierangelo

GLEMONE - Through 'Porta Udine', belonging to the first circle of walls, the visitor enters the old centre, where the Romanesque - Gothic Our Lady of Assumption's Cathedral rises. It is one of the most important medieval religious monuments of the region. It was seriously damaged by the 1976 earthquake and preserved thanks to a careful work of restoration. The pre-existing Romanesque Church was mentioned for the first time in a document of 1190, and it was altered and enlarged at the end of the 12th century by the Masters Giovanni and Giovanni Griglio. It was consecrated on Pentecost day in 1337.In the churchyard, the bell tower including the terracotta spire reaches the height of 50 meters. It was built from 1341 until 1369 by Nicolò and Domenico, sons of Giovanni Griglio. It was completely destroyed by the 1976 earthquake and has been rebuilt 'stone on stone'. The cathedral shows a...

Airplane:from others continents you'll probably find only direct flight to rome or milan while from europe is quite easy to find direct connection to others italian town. If you're leaving from London to Turin, Genoa and others italian town check Ryan Air... they offer incredibly low fares!!! Airplaine: Airplanes are not widely used. Unless you're in MIlan or Rome it could be difficult to find a flight for your next italian destination. And you can only find low fares flying from rome to milan or viceversa

Well, virtually any kind of transport is possible. If you're on a short time, or if you live on another continent, take a flight - there are several international airports in Italy. I believe that you can get there by train from Switzerland, Austria, or Slovenia, as well as by car, or bus, through the same countries. I reached Italy by bus, and was not at all a hard trip, because German, Austrian and Italian roads are terrific. If you're a sport fan, you can ride a bike, but Italy is still reasonably large, so do not overestimate your possibilities.I can't advice anything about hitch-hiking, but all Italians that I've seen were quite open people, so I do not believe that it is not impossible. Of course, Italian police is doing a great job, so do not hitch on dual carriageways! As you all know, Italy lies mostly on peninsula, so it well rounded by big water, it means that miscellaneous ship...

by derya

well,I chosed to go to italy from greece. You have to go to Patra first where you can find the seelines. My advice is to prefer the deck type seats while booking the ship ticket.Deck seats are the cheapest and they are quite comfortable. The deck is just like a hotel loby. You will find big sofas which you will use as a bed when the night comes. You always have the chance to go outside and watch the sea,but in the winter it is too cold outside. In the ship only greek money is valid.Use the trains. The second class tickets are relatively cheap, and the trains are comfortable.(except one night.I was travelling from napoli to venice and there was no heater in the train I thought that I was going to die because of the cold)

To get to Positano you need to get to Salerno or Sorrento first. Then catch the bus to Positano. It is about an hour drive along these crazy, twisty, cliff side roads. If you are afraid of heights don't look out the window.Getting around in Positano is easy. Walk. You can get everywhere on your own two feet.

From the United States you have to fly. Be to Italy or another city in Europe. The only way to see Italy is to drive. Its a waste of time to take the train or bus. They cost as much as a car rental. And you can't every site in Italy. The car lets you see everything.

When travelling by train in Italy, be sure what kind of train you are getting, if there's a restaurant wagon , if not, you'd better take some sandwiches and something to drink, otherwise you'll be in trouble.Try to keep your stuff ( camera and Video ) very close to you on the buses and at touristic places and if you are a woman, alone or in a group, pay attention.

Italy can be reached by car,...

by mnybondas

Italy can be reached by car, by bus or by train from the neighbouring countries in the north. There are plenty of air connections to other European cities. During the summer season there are plenty of cruise lines which cruise the Mediterranean Sea and which stop in different harbors in Italy.Italy has an excellent network of freeways (Autostradas). The roads are excellent, but the toll charges on the freeways are quite expensive. The gasoline in Italy is heavily taxed like in many other Western European countries. This makes it easily expensive to use a rental car to get around. The speed limit on the freeways is 130 kilometers / hour. Many drivers drive considerably faster than this. The fines for speeding are heavy and they have to be paid on the spot. The trains and buses are an excellent alternative to a rental car.
