For almost the entire month of december a Christmas market is held in piazza Walther; the main square of Bolzano.
There you can buy some Christmas crafts, typical food products and various other things. You can also have a glass (or more) of mulled wine; some other drinks and something to eat.
At the Christmas market you can also enjoy some concerts, puppets theatre and other venues.

At the beginning of october in piazza (square) Walter, the local florists create some nice spots with pumpkins, flowers and other things.
Besides the colorful creations this festival includes a competition. You can enter this bringing the biggest and heaviest pumpkin.
At this festival there are also various kinds of pumpkins, gadgets, books and souvenirs on sale.

There are so many most wonderful murals to be seen in the city center of Bolzano, so do make sure to check them out! My favourite one was the peacock more or less across the street from the restaurant "Weisses Rössel".

As Bolzano is part of South Tyrol / Alto Adige it is bilingual - both Italian and German. It is incredible to experience this: people switch from one language to the other and at times there are funny combinations of the two languages!
Also, all the signs are written in both languages - so my chance to get by were really good!!!

You'll probably not see the house or yard without a flower in Bolzano surroundings and probably in all South Tirol. It's the way locals use to attract tourists and to please themselves. And it does not matter what flowers you like - each looks beautifull decoration.

You will be treated to some non-Italian music at Piazza Walther played by the locals. These musicians will entertain you with some German or Austrian music. The music is very festive and lively, and is very enjoyable. You can throw him some change if you like.

Bread and cakes are a typical product in this area. In Bolzano you may find lots of bakeries offering a wide range of interesting breads, including rye bread, though not the integral German one.
I found a nice dry rye bread in round shapes, very hard to bite, with a lot of aniseed in it in Panificio Lemayr - PANE E TRADIZIONE: via Avogadro 8 in the city centre. In the same shop I had a great slice of wonderful apple strudel and the more difficult poppy seed strudel.

Do not believe to those people who say that GERMAN is the real language spoken here: yes, it's true they preferrably speak german but for sure they do not kill you if you speak italian !! and they understand you so, don't worry !!!

The hanging laundry in the mountains? One can notice this almost near every stop-by restaurant or "rifugio".

Well, this is Italy... so try to be as open and loud as Italians are and you need to eat pizza or pasta and drink wine.. and drive like crazy. Doing so you'll feel at home here.
