The cloister of the Dominican Church has recently been renovated and is a joy to look at. There a numerous frescos with a fascinating combination of color and black and white ornaments - the oldest from the 14th century, a fresco cycle by Friedrich Pacher created in the year 1496 and some frescos from the 16th century. Also there is a wonderful sun dial to be seen. Please have a look at the other photographs! There was no admission fee. Leave a Comment Address: Piazza Domenicani / DominikanerplatzDirections: When we visited in July 2007 there was still a lot of construction/renovation going on, so it was difficult to find the entrance. Be sure to have a look at the map or ask your way around!Website: http://www.bolzano.net/english/dominican-monastery.html

above Bolzano by kentishgirl You must take the cable car from Bolzano up higher into the mountains, there are beautiful walks up here and the scenery is outstanding. Must take something to cover your arms though it can get chilly. From here you can take a little train that takes an awesome route along the mountains. Leave a Comment

Village near Schluderns. by dabidc The village could be Mals, it is the first of one as the road descends to the Adige valley. There are signs that the climate is mild emough to supprt both crops and fruit trees. the long valley stretching 80 km to Merano is noted for its Apple crop. At one location near here there are ruins of gun emplacements from the First World War, when Italy was fighting Austria. One result was that this area known as Sud Tirol was passed to Italy and became known as Alto Adige. Leave a Comment Directions: Fruit farming for 80 km along the valley. Signs of past wars have to be searched for with the help of local Tourist offices and History groups.

The Cathedral was built in the Gothic style from 1340 - 1500 AD. The church tower (65 m high) was constructed by a Swabian sculptor by the name Hans Lutz von Schussenried (1501 - 1519). The Cathedral is huge and the nave is very high! When we were there there was the organ playing, so this added to a very solemn atmosphere. Worthwhile seeing are the Romanesque portal, the rose window from 1300, the Fresco of the Madonna with the Child, the Gothic pulpit and the Baroque high altar. Leave a Comment

The Dominican Church is one of the first Gothic complexes of the region. Its most stunning part is a side chapel - St. John's Chapel with wonderfully preserved frescos from the Giotto School - be sure and drop a coin in the box to get full lighting! The Merkantil Chapel is decorated in the Baroque style - wonderfully done by an artist named Guercino, who was invited to come to Bozen by the city magistrate in 1654. Opening hours are: Monday - Saturday 9.30 am - 5 pm; Sunday 12 am - 5 pm Leave a Comment Address: Piazza Domenicani / DominikanerplatzPhone: +39 0471 973133 or 982027Directions: en we visited in July 2007 there was still a lot of construction/renovation going on, so it was difficult to find the entrance. We walked around the complex twice until we found the little door leading into the church. It was well worth the "trouble"!

Duomo in Bolzano by meteorologist1 The Duomo (or cathedral) in Bolzano's city center is fairly large in size. Its structure was built in 1295 in Romanesque style, and then in 1340 was continued in Gothic style until its completion in the early 15th century. The structure is magnificent. A great photograph spot, and it's worth to have a look inside. Leave a Comment Directions: Adjacent to Piazza Walther, in Bolzano's city center.

Castel Mareccio by croisbeauty The Castle Mareccio was recently restaurated and nowadays served as Congress center. We almost missed it completely because you cannot see it rom the town. It is situated in the area next to the huge town park. Leave a Comment Address: Via Castel Mareccio

by tini58de Piazza Walther is THE meeting point in Bolzano. It is also where all the markets and festivals take place, like the pumpkin festival, the Speck festival and the Christmas market. In 1808 Emperor Maximilian of Bavaria commissioned the construction of this square. It was named after the most famous German poet of the Middle Ages, Walther von der Vogelweide (1170-1230). The Walther statue in the Neo-Romanic style was created by Heinrich Netter in 1889. Leave a Comment Address: Piazza Walther / WalterplatzDirections: Next to the Cathedral in the very center of Bozen / Bolzano
