The skiing has improved in the last couple of years. New slopes have been created, snow cannons, chairlifts have been added, so that area now has more variety and scope.
It offers wide, tree lined slopes, mostly blue and reds but there are several black runs for more advanced skiers. All are connected by a free bus service. Snowmaking covers almost the whole system and you can find also a new skating rink, which is great fun for youngsters.
For beginners perfect place to learn to ski, but novadays it's great for intermediates and advanced too.
The excellent ski school - Italian Ski Folgaria School/Loc. Francolini, 41 - on wide, open easy slopes ensures that beginners progress quickly and move on with confidence to the higher slopes.
Regarding ski touring, there are no marked itineraries in the table-lands, and the advice is to ask the ski school teachers or the Alpine guides, also for a further safety.
In the Millegrobbe centre, the international Nordic ski race “Millegrobbe” took place since twenty years. Taking part in the race are allowed for everybody over 18 years apart from nationality. You need only a valid medical certificate of fitness sports racing.

The fort was built in 1910 by the austrian fort. It is part of 30 fortress that were built in the same time. During the First World War the austrian soldiers live in here to keep the Italy army.
Until a few years ago it was possible to visit the inside too but now it is closed. It is still very interesting to look around and climbint to the top of it the view is wonderful.

The restaurant is part of the Hotel Tomasi, one of the older hotel of Folgaria town. The inside is nicely decorated with wood paneling and objects from the local art and crafts. During the summer you can also have your meal in the outside terrace that have a great view.
Favorite Dish: It is always hard to find something to pick as all they have in their menu sound good! Last time we went there we had Goulash with polenta and venison cooked in red wine and with polenta, as a side we had mushroom fried zucchini grilled vegetables and baked potatoes.
We also had a nice cafaffe of draft red wine.

The restaurant is a old mountain lodge, it have been there since 1556. The view is fantastic, you can see the entire Folgaria Plateau and the surrounding mountain. It is a common destination for summer hikes and for winter sky. It is built of stones and woods and have a nice "mountain" look.
The terrace have lots of tables, during the summer they are shaded with umbrellas to keep you cool.
There are also a few rooms to sleep there.
There are two way to reach it:
- hiking by foot: leave your car at the Passo Sommo Alto, near the parking lot there is the start of the trail that in about 1 hour and a half will take you there. The hike is not hard, not very steep and pleasant.
- by chairlift: From Folgaria drive to the village of Francolini, live the car at the parking lot and take the chaitlift, in about 15 minutes you will be at the lodge.
I believe it is also possible to drive there along the same trail you will be hiking, but I think you need a special permission from the municipality to do that.
Favorite Dish: I had lunch here several times and frankly everything was good. The last time i went we had bratwurst with french fries and cheese canederli (it is a sort of big ball mad of bread, cheese, prosciutto and some other stuff, they cook it in boiling water, rinse and serve with melted butter on top).
Their cake are great too, but my favourite dessert there is ice cream with warm berries sauce and whipp cream.

After a substantial winter walk or an excursion it may occur primarily at the children, that their limbs are so much cold , that they hurt practically.
When the body notices a drop in temperature it will stop the bloodflow to the legs and arms by contracting the blood vessels.
The legs, hands being frozen through, you may warm up gradually only, because they store a lot of cold blood and the heart doesn't like drastic changes.
The correct warming of body parts being got cold: into a water bath at the beginning only lukewarm, you should feed warm water very slowly, till is getting warm to a body temperature.
Do not rub them, you may cause injuries with strong rubbing, and to rub with snow is particularly prohibited!

Favorite thing: Being surrounded by mountains it makes me feel, as if I would be in the wilderness of peace, and nothing would be my thing, to sit only, to relax; and to listen to the whisper of the silence.
I am sure, Wolfgang Goethe had the same feeling, when he wrote his famous poem, the Wanderer's night-song:
Über allen Gipfeln
ist Ruh,
in allen Wipfeln
spürest du
kaum einen Hauch;
die Vögelein schweigen im Walde,
warte nur, balde
ruhest du auch!
Fondest memory: The translated version of Wanderer's night-song
Over all the peaks
it is peace,
in all the treetops
you feel
hardly a breath of wind;
the little birds are silent in the forest...
only wait - soon
you will rest as well.
