Riva del Garda Things to Do

The mountains are never far off in Riva! In this picture, taken on the boulevard along Lake Garda, you can see a cliff rising up right behind the town centre.

  • The Civic Museum (Museo Civico)

Riva del Garda has a very good town museum located in an old palace named "the Rocca" in the center of town. The museum is on multiple foors and features archaological exhibits, exhibits about the town's history, and a good art collection. Give yourself at least an hour to go through it. The museum also has a tower from which you can get good views...

Riva del Garda and surrounding is certainly one of the most amazing places anyone could hope to explore by bike. The peaks, which rise over 2000m out of the Lake are crossed by superb tracks and trails, providing enjoyment and challenge for all kinds of mountain bikers. We stay at the best 3 star mountain bikers hotel in Riva. We’re just minutes...

  • Do a boatrip.

From Riva del Garda you can do several boat trips to various villages or towns. There are ferries, hydrofoils and motorised catamarans that opearate all year. For instance you can go to Limone and Malcesine.Limone. Its name comes from the latin word “limen”, which means border. It lies on the north-western shore of the lake. It's a small town with...

  • Take a boat to discover villages

Lago di Garda have a good ferries service. There are official boats run by the local sailing company and many tourist boats that can take you all over the place. If you dont have a car to drive around, of if you just want to have a relaxing day away from the narrow curvy roads you can decide to jump on one of this ferry and start exploring the lake...

  • Stroll along the lake shore

The easier, cheaper and more relaxing thing to do is just walk along the lake's shore. The municipality keep it up a lot, there are flowers and big old tree and several benches where to sit and enjoy the wonderful view and the company.During the summer there are often free concert and exhibits.

  • Hunting for panoramic spots

The Northern part of the Lake is really very scenic, much better than the bottom. The lake get really narrow, it is surrounded by mountains and the wind come right into it making it the perferct place for those who love windsurfs and parasailing. Unfortunally the day I was there it was too early in the morning and the wind didnt started yet, but I...

  • Hike a trail

My good friend Patrizia (VT WXWXR ) suggest me to mention a nice trail to walk. It is the old road for Val di Ledro and worth to take. It starts at the estreme end of Riva, opposite the side from Rovereto, near an old electric power central. There are also many other walking trails, ask your hotel for a map.

  • Brasserie in business sice 1649

When I was planning this weekend I found somewhere a good review about this place. We both like good beer and austrian food so we decided to give it a try.It was a real good advice!!This restaurant was first a brewery since 1649, unfortunally i was too concentrated on my own beer and food to ask them about their history but i will do it for sure...

Italian Italian Italian......but once in awhile you need a change. We found this tip on this restaurant from a friend and searched for it on a rainy night. • Don't get cheated

Avoid this restaurant at all costs! They purposely cheated us by pretending they didn't understand what I ordered, although I very clearly stated it, more than once, in Italian. ONE pasta, ONE fish, one half-liter of house wine to be divided by two people. The bill for two people, for wine, pasta, and fish was eighty euro! When I protested, they...

  • Great German Food & Beer

I do leave in Riva del Garda for 3 years now, and would say that this is one of the restaurants that you schould visit. If not for lunch or dinner, for sure for a beer. They have original Kapuzinner, pils and Weis ( also awailable the dark one ). Give a try to this place and let me know. The restaurant offers several german dishes, my favorite one...

  • Wonderful Bavarian food...

This restaurant was attached to our hotel, and as a rule, Ma Kettle and I usually give hotel food a pass. However, something brought us back here, after searching the center for a decent restaurant. Perhaps it was the desk clerk's very honest approach towards the hotel upon check-in, and her good comments on the food offered.I would suggest that...

Riva del Garda Transportation

  • Sita Bus to Riva

There is no doubt in our mind that the best way to travel to Riva is by Sita Bus. We were most impressed by the drivers, the cleanliness and comfort of these buses. The ride is smooth, you sit high enough to see over the growth on the side of the highways, and you may choose to hop off as you enter a village you like the look of. If you purchase a...

Ok, this is something you might already know, but we kinda forgot all about it: there is no shortcut through a mountain! Ah well, since I had taken lots of photographs already, time for me to have a good look. ;-) at our...

  • Bus to Riva del Garda

You can get to Riva del Garda by the bus from Trento, Roverto, and Verona. I took the bus from Trento which costed 3.20 euros one way per person. The buses are air conditioned and are comfortable. The buses take the small, steep mountain roads -- but don't be afraid. The driver of the bus is very skilled.

    3 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When you eat at restaurant, small bread sticks are always available. No matter you eat those or not, those will be added to your check as "service". Actually those are very good, so you should eat sticks =)

Riva del Garda Warnings and Dangers

  • Riva del Garda- is it worth it?

Before my holiday on Lake Garda, I'd heard a lot of hype from friends, brochures and literature, about the northern town of Riva del Garda. Naturally, I decided to take a look around the place, taking the bus from Peschiera in the far south, it being a stormy day and probably not good for boats. On arrival, we were dumped somewhere near the town...

  • Be ware!

I can understand why some people don t wanna drive their car when in Italia, since there are a lot of mopeds on the roads.Everyone seems to ride one! They are every where! In The Netherlands you gotta be aware of bicycles but in Italia it sure are these things!

  • Modern day and age

This is a rather unspoiled village, though we could see living here isn't always as romantic as we tend to believe. We saw another village where tourism had struck: the building of high raised condo's and the disappearing of old structures. No doubt all for the benefit of the town but those new buildings are so very prominent. On the larger picture...

Riva del Garda What to Pack

  • Always bring warm clothes

The weather at the lake is quite umpredictable. Even during summer, in this upper part of the Lake, storms are frequent, usually they come in the late afternoon. I went in mid June and it was supposed to be hot but I ended up wearing ALL i had in the suitcase!!Better to bring different layer of clothes so you can adjust as you go. Best are soft...

  • Riva is large enough to find most...

In the case of Riva, either a back pack or rolling luggage would be acceptable. The main section of Riva is well paved so wheels on your suitcase can move freely. We visited in late fall and the weather, although overcast and foggy, was lovely. I'd suggest a weatherproof jacket and an umbrella however, just in case. I'd assume anything you might...
