San Martino di Castrozza Things to Do

San Martino is the perfect destination for skiers and high-altitude mountaineers.

"Here you will find some of the best runs in the Dolomites: such as Tognola Uno, featuring many slope drops; Cima Tognola, with a thousand-metre drop, the Direttissima and Cristiania for expert skiers.
The Colverde run is a little easier. It is exposed to the sun all day long and lit at night; ideal for families. Pra’ delle Nasse is the ideal nursery slope for beginners. While at Passo Rolle the Paradiso run takes its name from the heavenly view you can enjoy from the top..."

    Super places!

A tourist mecca, the Dolomites are famous for skiing in the winter months and mountain climbing, daily excursions, climbing and Base Jumping, as well as paragliding and hang gliding in summer and late spring - early autumn. The main centres include: Rocca Pietore alongside the Marmolada glacier, which lies on the border of the Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto regions, the small towns of Alleghe, Falcade, Auronzo, Cortina d'Ampezzo, and the villages of Arabba, Ortisei and San Martino di Castrozza, as well as the whole of the Fassa, Gardena and Badia Valleys.

San Martino has a concentration of quaint stores and boutiques. There are lots of gastronomic speciality shops offering tastings of the typical pork butcher's produce and the famous cheeses.

What to buy: There are also various craft shops at Primiero.

    What to pay: Depend

Fondest memory: The grandness of the Dolomiti is always around you as you thread your way along the valley floors before ascending the passes that link them. Some of the passes are as high as Australia's highest mountain yet here the jagged cliffs still rise even further.

Fondest memory: There I was, en route to San Martino, when I came upon this sign. A message from home perhaps? A sign from above? Grave site of an ancient warrior?
How about, "Don't throw your rubbish on the ground, use the bins provided". So much for my imagination!

Favorite thing: There is ample room to ski and you'd be hard pressed to do every run here in the same day. This shot looks back down where I came up to the far side of the valley where the other lifts can be clearly seen.
