From Innsbruck to Vipiteno and back
Instead of the expensive Brenner Pass (motorway A13 in Austria and A22 in Italy) you can travel from Innsbruck to Vipiteno and back along higway B182 (Steinach - Gries) in Austria and highway 12 in Italy. It's a very relaxed road in a beautiful landscape and you pay no toll.
- Road Trip
Best by car - or bicycle
The area is best reached by car. From Sterzing/Vipiteno follow the signs "Pfitschertal/val Vizze" and follow the road until to the place from where on it is closed. The road leads in principle up to the Pfitscher Joch Tthe Italians built under the Fascist time many quite adventurous miliitary roads towards the Austrian frontier wherever possible - one of them is the Timmelsjoch road (see my Meran page), its connection from Austria was built not earlier than around 1960. Mussolini obviously did not always trust his admirer Hitler...
Bus connection from Sterzing to all villages along the valley.
